Uzmar Builds Three Tugs for Smit Lamnalco

Turkish shipbuilder Uzmar has built thee new tugs for Smit Lamnalco.Designed by Robert Allan Ltd., the three purpose-designed and -built RAstar 4200 ASD tugs SL Ibo, SL Matemo and SL Macaloe were ordered in 2019. They are the first RAstar 4200 design vessels used for terminal support and have been outfitted specially for these operations. These new 42-meter tugs are specifically designed to be operated in the offshore area near the northeast coast of Pemba, Mozambique. Louis Dreyfus Armateurs, Tidal Transit in Another French Offshore Wind Farm Vessel Deal

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs and Tidal Transit have signed a contract for another Crew Transfer Vessel for the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm, offshore France. The wind farm site is owned by Eolien Maritime France SAS.The order follows a similar order signed in December 2020, when  GE  ordered two such vessels from Louis Dreyfus Armateurs and Tidal Transit. As the first two crew transfer vessels, this third vessel will be designed by naval architect Mauric and built by French shipyard Ocea.

Loss of Towline Shackle Pin Led to 2019 Tug Sinking -NTSB

The loss of a towline shackle pin and deteriorated watertight fittings caused a towing vessel to sink in the Pacific Ocean about 800 miles northwest of Guam, the National Transportation Safety Board revealed in a Marine Accident Brief on Thursday.The 114-foot-long U.S.-flagged tugboat Mangilao sank on August 5, 2019 while being towed to a drydock in Subic Bay, Philippines by the 97-foot U.S.-flagged tug Chamorro. Both vessels were owned and operated by Cabras Marine Corporation.

W&D to Build Two ASD Tugs for Moran Towing

Washburn & Doughty, of East Boothbay, Maine, has announced the execution of a new vessel construction contract with Moran Towing Corporation, of New Canaan, Connecticut, to build two 86’ x 36’ ASD-Type Ship Assist and Escort Z-Drive Tugs, with options to build up to ten vessels.In addition to the two firm tugs, which will be delivered in 2020, the contract provides Moran with four, two-tug options keyed to production milestones of the tugs then under construction.W&D’s team of in-house naval architects and designers will complete the production designs for the new 86’ tugs based on the contract plans and regulatory package prepared by Jensen Maritime Consultants, Inc.

Dart Fisher Ready for O&M Work

Washburn & Doughty Wins Hybrid Tug Orders

East Boothbay, Maine based Washburn & Doughty said it has secured a contract with Harbor Docking and Towing, of Lake Charles, La., to design and build two 93’ x 38’ Hybrid Z Drive Tugs. The 93’ x 38’ hull is a proven design with 18 tugs in operation and 4 under construction. Seacat Services Launches High Speed Utility Vessel

Offshore energy support vessel operator, Seacat Services, is preparing to launch its first High Speed Utility Vessel (HSUV), Seacat Enterprise. The 27m South Boats IoW catamaran is a new category of vessel for the offshore wind market, designed to provide both rapid crew transfer and wide-ranging logistical support for extended periods at sea. Blyth Workcats Delivers Aqualink

The first two-deck boat ever built by Blyth Workcats has recently been delivered to a customer in Belgium. The 18-meter Aqualink is the first Blyth Workcat to feature a high bridge and it has now entered service with Ostend Marine Services for which it has been designed to undertake a wide range marine operations. These include work as a charter survey vessel while also being equipped with an Ocean 3 bow fender and wide foredeck that enable it to undertake crew transfer and cargo delivery to offshore wind farms.

Sanmar Delivers New RAscal 1500 Line Handling Tug

The Brage, the first RAscal 1500 class tug designed by Robert Allan Ltd. has been delivered to its owners Buksér og Berging AS (BB) of Norway. Built in Turkey by Sanmar A.S. to extremely high quality standards more commonly seen in yachts, the tug exceeded all performance expectations on trials. Although just under 15 metres in length, this ABS classed tug is a true workboat with heavily built hull and heavy duty machinery and equipment. Engines are 350 kW Caterpillar C18 driving Veth VZ-550 azimuthing drives through carbon fibre shafts. Generators are twin Caterpillar C4.4 producing 69 ekW. The main bow fender is a 500 mm cylindrical type with vertical 400 x 300 “W” fenders underneath. The towing equipment consists of a hydraulic DMT winch on the foredeck and a Data tow hook aft.

Damen Shipyards have delivered the ASD tugs ‘Karloo’ and ‘Kalarka’ to Half Tide Marine Pty Ltd of Australia. Smit Orders Damen Stan Tug

Smit International awarded a contract to Damen Shipyards Gorinchem for the construction of a new terminal tug, a Damen Stan Tug 3509 for delivery end of this year under yard Nr. YN511606. Built as an enlarged Damen Stan Tug 2909 under standard rules of Bureau Veritas, the vessel will have an overall length of 35.3 m, a beam o.a. of 8.9 m, a draft of 4.3 m and a displacement of 420 tons with empty tanks. The twin screw tug will be powered by two Caterpillar 3516B TA/A main engines driving, via Reintjes WAF 872/7.087:1 gearbox, bronze Promarin fixed pitch propellors within 2,500 mm v.d. Giessen Kort nozzles. The total ouput will be 2950 kW (3959 bhp) at 1600 rpm. A bollard pull in excess of 52.8 tons is anticipated, with a free running speed of approximately 12.7 knots.

The 92 x 32 x 13.7-ft. tug is designed for ship handling and built to ABS Class Maltese Cross A1, Maltese Cross AMS, with notation: Towing Service and Fire Fighting Capability. Independent admeasures 148 gt and has a Load Line based on USA flag registry and USCG rules. Bollard pull is estimated at 135,000 lbs ahead and 130,000 lbs astern. Independent is powered by High Displacement Caterpillar 3516 B main engines – rated at 2,500 bhp @ 1,600 rpm – with electronic injection.

Washburn & Doughty Wins Tug Contract

Washburn & Doughty Associates, Inc. signed a contract to build a 92 x 32-ft. Z-Drive Tug for the Providence Steamboat Company. Providence Steamboat Company, located in Providence, RI, operates tugboats on Narragansett Bay and adjacent southeast New England waters. Engaged primarily in vessel assist work, the company has six tugs with two under construction. The vessel currently being built by Washburn & Doughty is Providence Steamboat’s first Z Drive Tug. Delivery is scheduled for December 2004. The new tug will be powered by two Caterpillar 3516HD main engines each rated at 2,500 hp @ 1,600 rpm. The propulsion units will be Rolls-Royce Aquamaster model US 205 Z Drives with NiBrAl 90.5-in. propellers and Kort nozzles lined with stainless steel.

ConAgra Inc., the second largest U.S. food manufacturer, has agreed to sell American Commercial Lines LLC (ACL) its large U.S. inland barge fleet and operations. Financial terms of the deal, which ConAgra said was part of ongoing series of strategic divestments, were not announced. ACL will acquire 930 owned and chartered barges, nine chartered towboats and one dry dock, the companies said in a joint statement. The deal includes Peavey Barge Lines, Brown Water Towing Inc. and Superior Barge Lines, Inc. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval but is expected to be completed in the next 30 days, the companies said. Greg Heckman, president and CEO, ConAgra Trade Group, said, "Our decision to sell the barge company is a strategic one.
