Ridge Global Names Two to Flag Bridge Team
Ridge Global, an international provider of security and risk management services, has named Vice Admiral Brian Peterman (United States Coast Guard, Retired) and Matt Branigan as the newest members of Flag Bridge, a recently launched service focused on maritime risk and sovereignty management. "Strategic maritime challenges are increasing at an alarming rate," said Tom Ridge, Ridge Global President and CEO and former secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In addition to Peterman and Branigan, Flag Bridge members include: Admiral Tom Collins, 22nd Commandant of the USCG; Vice Admiral Jim Hull; former USCG Area Commander; Rear Admiral Norm Saunders, former USCG District Commander; and Dan Sheehan, former USCG Chief Information Officer.
Coast Guard Holds Change of Command
Cmdr. Steve Godfrey, Commanding Officer of the Coast Guard Communications Master Station Atlantic transferred command to Cmdr. Eric Bruner during a Change of Command Ceremony at the Naval Support Activity Norfolk, Northwest Annex in Chesapeake, Va. Vice Adm. Brian Peterman, Commander of Coast Guard Atlantic Area was the presiding official for this Change of Command ceremony. Bruner arrives in Chesapeake after a tour as Deputy Chief, Atlantic Area C4IT and Security Division Officer.
First Maritime Force Protection Unit is Commissioned at Kings Bay
The U.S. Coast Guard commissioned the Maritime Force Protection Unit (MFPU) July 24 at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. The unit, the first of its kind, was officially activated during a formal commissioning ceremony presided over by Vice Adm. D. Brian Peterman, commander of the Coast Guard's Atlantic Area. “This is a new and unique mission,” Peterman said during his commissioning remarks. He also praised the Navy for helping develop training, techniques and specialized equipment for the new mission from scratch. The Coast Guard unit will provide enhanced security for the Trident submarines (SSBN) within their homeport transit area. Tridents generally operate on the surface during transit and the MFPU will provide additional security measures while operating under these conditions.
Navy Captain Retires after 26 Years of Service

Coast Guard Atlantic Change of Command Set for May 9
Vice Adm. D. Brian Peterman will assume command of the Coast Guard Atlantic Area during a Change of Command ceremony at 10 a.m. May 9, at the Integrated Support Command, Portsmouth, Va. Vice Adm. Peterman will relieve Vice Adm. Vivien S. Crea, who assumed command of Atlantic Area July 16, 2004. She has been appointed to Vice Commandant, the Coast Guard’s second-in-command position, and will transfer to Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, D.C. As Commander, Atlantic Area, Vice Adm. Peterman will be responsible for all Coast Guard activities within the eastern half of the world ranging from the Rocky Mountains to the Arabian Gulf and spanning five Coast Guard Districts…
Coast Guard, FBI Participate in Security Exercise
The Coast Guard Atlantic Area, Navy Second Fleet and the FBI are participating in Exercise Frontier Sentinel June 12-14 approximately 90 nautical miles east of Oregon Inlet, N.C. In particular, the exercise will gauge the effectiveness of inter-service cooperation at the tactical and operational levels. These functions are crucial to the successful implementation of "layered security," a strategy called for in the United States' National Strategy for Maritime Security. In order to test the effectiveness of doctrine and to increase the familiarity with one another and their respective roles, these partners must practice together in as-close-to-realistic scenarios as possible.
