War Insurers Shrug off Rubymar Sinking in Red Sea, Rates Stable

NYK Commences Operation of CTV for Offshore Wind Farm

NYK has delivered Rera As, an NYK-owned crew transport vessel (CTV), to Siemens Gamesa for the Ishikari Bay New Port offshore wind farm.The ClassNK certified vessel is the first CTV owned and operated by the NYK Group and is largest gross tonnage CTV currently in operation in Japan (according to NYK research). Cold Water Can Kill in Minutes

The UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has highlighted that, on average, crew have under 11 minutes to recover someone who has fallen overboard into cold water before they become unresponsive.An analysis of 20 accidents that occurred between 2017 and 2021 shows that the time decreases as the water becomes colder or the sea state rougher. Shipping Industry Slumps, but Ship Scrapping Looks Up

While the shipping industry struggles through a historic downturn, ship scrapping business is seeing accelerating demand, reports WSJ. The global economic slowdown is putting shipping through its most bruising period since the 2008 financial crisis. With the capacity running some 30% ahead of shipping demand, orders for new vessels have fallen to a record low this year and companies can’t get rid of ships fast enough. In the five years to last year, owners ordered an average of 1450 ships annually. This year ­orders to last month fell to 293 vessels, according to British marine data provider Vessels Value. About 1000 ships that have the combined capacity to haul 52 million tonnes of cargo will be dragged on to beaches, cut into pieces and sold for scrap metal this year.

UK Chamber signs MOU with Society of Maritime Industries, British Marine

The UK Chamber of Shipping has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Society of Maritime Industries and British Marine, to set out the basis for the three organisations to work together for the benefit of the industry as a whole.
