Inmarsat, IT Partners Bring IP-based Broadband to Fisheries Market

Real-time fisheries management and governance to ensure robust quota compliance and safeguard sustainable fishing.Inmarsat, along with its partners Addvalue Innovation Pte Ltd (Addvalue) and Network Innovations, have launched a type-approved IP-based terminal and Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) for fishing vessels operating in United States (U.S.) waters. The Addvalue iFleetONE communications terminal and proprietary VMS have been type-approved in four of the five U.S. Fisheries Management regions, as required by the U.S.

KVH Ships 7,000th mini-VSAT Broadband System

KVH Industries, Inc. has shipped more than 7,000 mini-VSAT Broadbandsm systems, designed and manufactured by KVH to provide mobile connectivity at sea. The TracPhone V-series satellite communications antenna systems are currently in use on everything from small recreational sailboats cruising the coastline to 1,000-foot commercial freighters transiting the world’s oceans. KVH launched the mini-VSAT Broadband service in July 2007, and has seen the popularity of the service grow, coinciding with an overall trend in the maritime industry toward increased reliance on broadband connectivity. As recently as September 2016, industry analyst Northern Sky Research reported that KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband customers account for 29 percent of the vessels using Ku-band service.

Vroon Extends 140-plus Vessel Contract with KVH

KVH Industries, Inc. announced that Netherlands-based Vroon has extended its contract for KVH’s maritime satellite communications solution, choosing the mini-VSAT Broadbandsm network for connectivity services onboard more than 140 Vroon vessels. The multi-year contract also includes KVH’s IP-MobileCastTM service for news, sports, movie and TV delivery, as well as preventive maintenance checks to ensure peak performance on all fielded systems as part of the KVH OneCare program. The first installations of KVH’s 60 cm diameter TracPhone V7 systems onboard Vroon vessels took place in early 2011, after Vroon conducted a stringent selection process involving 22 different satellite communications providers. Today, more than 140 Vroon vessels employ the KVH mini-VSAT Broadband system onboard.

Satellite Service Alliance Between Inmarsat & Cisco

Global Xpress (GX) video & multi-media content to be delivered by alliance of Inmarsat and Cisco. Cisco will provide Inmarsat with a state-of-the-art satellite applications service delivery platform and a high-performance access network for GX, its new superfast global broadband system launching in 2014. The world leader in networking solutions, Cisco will also develop a router for end-users that give them access to both the BGAN network and Global Xpress. Cisco will build and operate the network on a fully managed basis before transferring it to Inmarsat. This GX/BGAN integrated platform will allow Inmarsat and its partners to rapidly develop and remotely deploy innovative applications, and it will also extend the reach of new services across the entire Inmarsat network.

Godby Shipping Rolls Out Wired Ocean Across Fleet

Wired Ocean, a solution to broadband internet at sea has been installed aboard the entire Godby Shipping fleet. The seven vessel installation of the unique system, which commenced in September 2007 was carried out by Telemar and completed when the final vessel in the fleet, Miranda, took delivery of the system in February 2008. Wired Ocean is a marine broadband system, designed to deliver shore to ship data via a vessel's satellite TV antenna.
