MTN NEXUS

MTN Names Olivier President, CEO

MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) said that Errol Olivier was appointed President and CEO. Olivier most recently served as the company’s President and COO. Olivier has over 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to joining MTN, he served as President and CEO of Broadpoint and President and COO of CapRock Communications. He is also recognized for pioneering the first commercial multi-tenant satellite telecommunication strategy for the oil and gas industry in the Gulf which revolutionized the way Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) services were delivered to the offshore energy market. Broadpoint Debuts Rate Plans, GOM

Broadpoint, a full-service telecommunications and network solutions company, announced that it will offer individual rate plans to offshore and marine employees in the Gulf of Mexico for the first time. Broadpoint Expands Coverage into GOM

Broadpoint announced the signing of a multi-year roaming agreement with T-Mobile USA, Inc.  For the first time, T-Mobile’s customers will have access to wireless voice, data and SMS service while in and around the Gulf of Mexico. Under the contract, Broadpoint will provide T-Mobile customers access to its GSM/GPRS/EDGE network, which extends over 100,000 square miles into the Gulf of Mexico. The news comes on the heels of an announcement earlier this year of expanded coverage in deepwater areas of the Gulf, highlighting Broadpoint’s continued commitment to network investment. Broadpoint Expands Coverage

Broadpoint has increased its number of cellular sites in the Gulf of Mexico by more than 30 percent, and said it will continue an aggressive schedule to add additional sites through the end of this year. In addition to expanding its core network, Broadpoint has made technology upgrades to its remote customer premise equipment and product offerings. The upgrades and additions to Broadpoint’s cellular network were made to improve service in highly trafficked areas and to add coverage in several new locations. As part of the expansion, the company now provides telecommunications service and network coverage in the Gulf’s deepwater areas for the first time. Broadpoint’s coverage area exceeds 100,000 square miles in the Gulf, and the company provides 24/7 customer service support.

Broadpoint, AT&T Sign Contract

Broadpoint extended its alliance with AT&T, extending AT&T’s wireless voice and data capabilities further into the . “Our business and enterprise customers need a reliable communications system wherever their jobs may take them, and that’s exactly what Broadpoint offers,” said J.R. Wilson, associate vice president of Partnerships and Alliances for AT&T’s wireless operations. “AT&T serves more than 95 percent of the Fortune 100 and over 80 percent of the Fortune 500 companies. The current contract is the latest in a long-standing relationship between the two companies. Over the next few years, it will allow AT&T to expand its mobile enterprise customer base via Broadpoint’s superior cellular communication system.

Northrop Grumman to Compete for USCG NAIS

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) announced at the U.S. Coast Guard Innovation Expo in New Orleans its intent to lead a team that will compete to design, integrate, install and test the Coast Guard's Nationwide Automatic Identification System (NAIS). NAIS will be a two-way maritime digital communication system, which will continually transmit and receive voiceless exchange of vessel data, including vessel identity, position, speed, course, destination and other data of critical interest for navigation safety, marine mobility and maritime security. The program will focus on improving maritime security, marine and navigational safety, search and rescue, and environmental protection services.
