DNV Grants AIP for Ammonia-fueled Zero-emissions Bulker

Classification society DNV has awarded approval in principle (AIP) for the ZeroCoaster ammonia fueled cargo ship, confirming an independent assessment that the ship's design is feasible and there are no obstacles to the design being commercially realized.The ZeroCoaster Consortium, led by Vard Engineering Brevik AS in partnership with ABB, Trosvik Maritime, AFC Energy, SINTEF Ocean and HK Shipping and is sponsored by the Norwegian Government, aims to design next generation coastal cargo ships to accelerate the transition to zero-emission shipping solutions.AFC Energy…

Crew Rescued from Sinking Bulk Carrier

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) reported that 24 crewmembers are safe after abandoning ship approximately 440 miles west of Guam Monday. At 8 a.m. Sunday, watchstanders at the USCG Sector Guam Command Center received report of flooding from the 500-foot bulk carrier cargo ship Rich Forest. The ship, carrying logs enroute to China, experienced flooding in the engine room and subsequent loss of propulsion. The Chinese crew reported the vessel was taking on 160 tons of water per hour and generators had failed.

Greek Shipping Company Sentenced in New Orleans for Pollution

WASHINGTON – Ilios Shipping Company S.A. was sentenced today in federal court in New Orleans for violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (APPS) and obstruction of justice, announced Assistant Attorney General Ignacia S. Moreno and Jim Letten, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
