Titan, the independent supplier of low and zero-emission fuels, acquired two small scale LNG carriers – the Seapeak Unikum and Seapeak Vision – from Seapeak, the Canadian gas transportation company formerly known as Teekay LNG Partners. The vessels will be retrofitted to ensure suitable LNG bunkering capabilities, enabling them to both transport and bunker LNG, liquefied biomethane (LBM), and in the longer-term hydrogen derived e-methane (e-LNG).Both sister vessels have a cargo capacity of 12,000 ccbm and measure 152 x 19.8m. The vessels will join Titan’s fleet in March this year.

OxGas, a company fully owned by the Port of Oxelösund in Sweden has commissioned MAN Energy Solutions to act as “owners engineer” in the development and construction of a multi-functional terminal for liquefied methane based fuels in the port of Oxelösund. 2019 was a relatively safe year for shipping in the port of Rotterdam. Over the past year, the number of sea-going vessels arriving was about the same as in 2018: 29,491 compared to 29,476 last year.According to the port authority, the number of accidents also remained virtually the same: 113 compared to 112, which involved mainly ‘parking damage’. As there was one very serious accident, the NSI (Nautical Safety Index) – a reflection of nautical safety – was slightly below the norm (6.56 instead of 7). Nauticor-operated LNG bunker supply vessel Kairos completed the first LNG bunkering operation in the port of Södertälje, Sweden, delivering 150 tons of LNG.Finnish North European Oil Trade (NEOT)  was the first company to bunker LNG from the Kairos vessel.During the operation, 150 tons of LNG were bunkered from “Kairos” to “Ternsund” at the port’s oil terminal.Åsa Boström, Controller at the Port of Södertälje, stated, “The first LNG bunker operation was a huge success and the cooperation between the terminal and port operators, the crews on board of the LNG bunker vessel and the receiving vessel went very well. AB Klaipedos nafta (KN), the operator of oil products and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, and the German company Nauticor GmbH & Co. have agreed on the sale of KN’s 10% stake in the charter contract of Kairos, the world’s largest LNG bunker supply vessel to Nauticor.This leaves the world's biggest LNG bunkering vessel at Nauticor's disposal. The transfer shall become effective as of 30 September 2019, said a press release.World’s largest LNG bunker supply vessel Kairos started operations in Q4/2019. Kairos, owned by Babcock Schulte Energy, is charterd by Blue LNG, a joint venture between Nauticor (90%) and KN (10%). Shipping company Nor Lines has allocated its two LNG-powered multipurpose vessels to a biweekly liner service from the SCA terminal in Rotterdam to the Norwegian coast. Titan LNG, the service supplier of liquefied natural gas, will be supplying the chilled fuel to two Nor Lines' vessels - The MV Kvitnos and the MV Kvitbjørn. The ships are bunkering, like the Wes Amelie, with Titan LNG at the City Terminal in the Prins Willem Alexander harbour (port number 2790). The LNG is delivered to the vessels by trucks. The Port of Rotterdam and Titan LNG have set up the site temporarily to bunker LNG to sea-going vessels until there are sufficient LNG bunker barges available. Nor lines is a fully owned subsidiary of the shipping company Samskip.

Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) now offers bunkering of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). First off was the vessel Ireland, which unloaded cement in Malmö. In connection with this she was provided with LNG via tanker lorries. It's about bunkering where safety requirements are extra tough. The bunkering at the end of May was made possible through close cooperation between the LNG supplier SkanGas, the client company Cementa, and CMP. Together the companies have investigated risks, taken precautionary measures and developed routines for bunkering LNG at CMP. "Ireland was provided with LNG via two tanker lorries on the quayside. The bunkering was undramatic, and it feels good for us now to be able to offer this possibility", says CMP's Terminal Manager Emil Nordström.

Fluxys has taken over the concession in the port of Antwerp at quay 526-528 to make liquefied natural gas (LNG) available as an alternative fuel for ships and barges, in one of the Port Authority's key initiatives to make the port's activities more sustainable. Fluxys will add a permanent LNG bunkering facility by the end of next year to complement the existing mobile (truck-to-ship) bunkering service. For ships and heavy duty trucks LNG is the ideal alternative in the transition to lower greenhouse gas emissions and better air quality. Switching to LNG immediately cuts emissions of sulphur and particulate matter to negligible levels, while emissions of nitrogen oxides are dramatically reduced and carbon emissions significantly lowered.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered icebreaker Polaris has left its home base in Helsinki on Tuesday to become the third Finnish icebreaker active in this year’s icebreaking season. The nearly 110-meter-long Polaris is the world’s first LNG powered icebreaker, running on both LNG and marine diesel. The vessel will head to Tahkoluoto, Pori, to bunker LNG before joining fellow icebreakers Kontio and Otso which departed on December 18, 2017 and January 9 respectively. “The crew is very excited to begin icebreaking duty after a long summer and autumn,” said Pasi Järvelin, master of IB Polaris.

Skangas has announced that it has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with National Grid Grain LNG. Under the terms of the LoI, Skangas is to source LNG at the Grain LNG import terminal on the Isle of Grain in the UK. Skangas, which produces LNG, struck the deal with Grain LNG to ensure a reliable supply of LNG is available, which is critical to the fast-growing small-scale LNG market. As a result of this recent development, Skangas becomes the first small-scale LNG supplier to enter into such an agreement with a UK-based import terminal. Grain LNG, which operates primarily as a large-scale import terminal, is firmly committed to developing an LNG break bulk marine facility to make it possible for small vessels to reload and bunker LNG.

Wärtsilä said it booked an order in June to supply the cargo handling system and cargo tanks for a new 3,000 cubic meter capacity liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker barge currently under construction. The vessel, which is being built in Romania and will be outfitted in the Netherlands, will be owned by LNG Shipping, a consortium between Belgium based Victrol and CFT Corporation based in France. MAN Cryo, MAN Diesel & Turbo’s marine-LNG fuel-gas-system manufacturer, has signed a contract with Swedish infrastructure company, Swedegas, to deliver an LNG bunkering facility within the Port of Gothenburg. The new facility will enable vessels to bunker LNG from trucks or containers while simultaneously loading/unloading cargo at two jetties at the port’s Energy Port, dispensing with the need to make a separate refuelling stop. The solution offers increased flexibility for customers and LNG suppliers, and will be open for multiple suppliers.

Excelerate Energy said t its newly upgraded floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Explorer recently completed its sendout performance tests and reached a sendout capacity of 1.0 Bcf/d – an unprecedented milestone for an FSRU. The FSRU is currently under long-term charter to Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP) at the Jebel Ali LNG Import Terminal. "We approach each of our projects as partnerships and work closely with our customers, like DUSUP, to provide a tailored solution that will serve their specific needs for the long run.

Just in time for Nor-Shipping, DNV GL will launch the LNG Fuel Finder - a new tool on its LNG business intelligence portal LNGi. The new LNG Fuel Finder service will allow shipowners and charterers to register their interest in using LNG as a ship fuel free of charge, connecting them directly with LNG suppliers. DNV GL has also introduced the option of signing up to a new lean version, where interested parties can access some of LNGi’s services and data free of charge. The question of bunkering availability is still a major stumbling block for shipowners looking to make their first moves in LNG as a marine fuel. Information can be hard to find, and it remains challenging to keep track of new developments.

The bunkering of the Ternsund was initiated today in Rotterdam, marking the first seagoing vessel to bunker liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the port. As a result the brand new product tanker of the Swedish shipping company Terntank also receives the first Rotterdam 'LNG bunkering incentive’; a premium amounting to a discount of 10 percent on the seaport dues. Rotterdam is introducing an additional incentive to bunker LNG, liquefied natural gas. The Port of Rotterdam Authority has reserved a total of EUR 1.5 million for this incentive. The scheme will apply until 2020. Up until this time, seagoing vessels that bunker LNG in Rotterdam can benefit from a 10% discount on gross seaport dues thanks to the new scheme. Allard Castelein – CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority – announced this on 15 December 2015 during the second day of the ‘LNG Masterplan final event’. LNG is the cleanest fossil fuel. Encouraging the use of this fuel is in keeping with the Port Authority’s aim to make Rotterdam’s port the most sustainable in its class.
