Optimarin Expands Service and Spare Parts Network

Norwegian based ballast water treatment system (BWTS) manufacturer Optimarin announced an agreement with U.S.-based Lee Engineering Supply Company to warehouse critical spare parts and plans to expand its global service network.According to Optimarin CEO, Leiv Kallestad, the agreement represents a step in the company’s efforts to provide after-sale service to owners operating in the Gulf of Mexico. “By warehousing critical spare parts at Lee Engineering’s facilities in Louisiana, we can make sure our customers have rapid access to both spare parts and service, if required,” he says.

Optimarin Completes IMO G8 and USCG Test Program

Norwegian-based ballast water treatment (BWT) systems manufacturer Optimarin informs it has completed testing of its Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) in accordance with the revised IMO G8 guidelines, while also upgrading its existing U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) approval certificates to ensure compliance for zero to two hours holding time.The testing procedures were conducted at the NIVA test facility in Norway from September 2019 to the end of June 2020, with DNV GL operating as the designated Independent Laboratory. Tests were conducted with two different filters simultaneously.

Goltens Wins BWTS Orders for 37 Ships

Goltens Green Technologies has now completed, or is in the process of completing, 435 ballast water retrofit projects around the globe.

Goltens’ Worldwide Green Technologies Division Asia announced contracts with NYK Bulk & Projects Carrier Ltd. (NBP) and BW LPG for support in retrofitting a total of 37 vessels with ballast water treatment systems (BWT).The NBP order is for 25 bulk carriers. NBP is a subsidiary of NYK. Goltens scope on the project includes 3D laser scanning and modeling of BWT systems, delivery of detailed design packages, and installation supervision in the shipyard.BW LPG awarded orders for the same scope of work for the retrofitting of 12 of its LPG carriers.

Aquaculture Firm Chooses Optimarin BWTS

DESS Aquaculture, a joint venture between Solstad Farstad and John Fredriksen’s Marine Harvest, has signed a contract to install Optimarin ballast water treatment (BWT) systems on its four newbuild 3,500m3 capacity wellboats.The agreement pushes the number of systems sold by Optimarin so far this year beyond the 50 mark, with recent orders also received from Besiktas Shipping, Eureka Shipping, Solvang, Koyo Kaiun and Ahrenkiel, among others.The four ships, two of which are due for delivery in 2019…

New Ship Repair Yard Coming to Brazil

The total volume of cargo tranported by sea in Brazil from January to September 2017 was pegged at 800 million tons, according to a survey by the National Agency of Waterway Transportation (Antaq). A large number of oceangoing and cabotage ships are needed to move such a volme and many of these ships will need repairs of various kinds. Having identified a positive demand for international standard ship repair facilities in the South Atlantic basin, McQuilling Services, headquartered in New York, will be leading a project to invest nearly a billion in Lucena, on the coast of the northeast state of Paraíba, for the installation of the Brazil Basin Drydock Company (BBDC) repair yard projects.

Optimarin Demonstrates Total System Reliability

Environmentally friendly and compliant BWT technology company  Optimarin gave a demonstration of its long-term system reliability onboard Neptune Subsea’s IMR vessel Larissa in the same week that a report from ABS revealed problems with almost half of installed ballast water treatment (BWT) systems. Optimarin has installed more than 300 of its systems worldwide, with over 500 units ordered. The 334 m3 capacity system onboard the SX130 Ulstein design Larissa was one of the first, installed during its construction by Zhejiang Shipbuilding in 2010. Goltens to Retrofit BWT Systems on BP Gas Carriers

Goltens said it has been awarded a contract for the engineering and retrofit installation of OceanSaver ballast water treatment (BWT) systems on board two of BP Shipping’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. The vessels to be retrofitted are the two 138,000 cbm LNG vessels British Innovator and British Merchant. Optimarin, Goltens Ink Spare Parts and Service Deal

Optimarin informs it has signed an agreement with Goltens Green Technologies giving the Norwegian-headquartered ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist a global network of spare parts warehousing and service engineers. U.K. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson paid a visit to Coldharbour Marine recently as the ballast water treatment system manufacturer’s facility in Nottinghamshire gears up for significant export-oriented production. Coldharbour Marine has spent more than 10 years researching and developing the system based on unique patented in-tank inert gas technology, which the manufacturer said is now undergoing rapid commercialization. Seaspan Installs BWTS on Louis Dreyfus Cable Layer

Following five weeks of repair and installation activities, Seaspan’s Vancouver Drydock (VDC) has completed its refit activities on Louis Dreyfus’ Ile de Batz Special Purpose/Cable Layer vessel. Optimarin has signed contracts with Wisby Tankers and Hoëgh Autoliners to install its market proven Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) on five existing vessels. ABN AMRO Finances Celsius BWTS Installs

ABN AMRO Transportation has concluded financing for the installation of ballast water treatment systems on several vessels for its Danish client, Celsius Shipping. As per September 8, 2017, the IMO Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) Convention will enter into force. The convention will stop the spread of invasive aquatic species, which can be a threat to local ecosystems and affect biodiversity. Under the convention, vessels will be required to install a BWT system. This will have implications for both shipping clients and ABN AMRO as the core financier. Ballast water is carried on board a vessel to keep it stable when it is not, or not (fully) loaded. Once cargo has been loaded onto the vessel, the ballast water needs to be discharged.

Ecochlor Submits USCG Type Approval Application

Saga Shipholding has completed the installation of Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS) throughout its entire fleet of 32 advanced open hatch cargo vessels. Evolution BWT System Begins USCG Shipboard Tests

Cathelco announced that its Evolution ballast water treatment (BWT) system has begun shipboard testing for U.S. Coast Guard Type Approval. The system has been installed on the Svendborg Strait a 1,085 TEU containership owned by Carsten Rehder of Hamburg. “From the start of this project to the final completion we appreciate the care and attention to detail from Cathelco, leading to a smooth, trouble free installation. Cathelco Supply BWT System for Cable Laying Vessel

Cathelco have supplied a ballast water treatment (BWT) system for the C.C. Pacifique, a steel barge which is being converted into a cable laying vessel for Coastal Carriers BV of the Netherlands. The order for the system was placed by V.Delta, part of V.Group, the international ship management company who are managing the conversion of the 120 meter vessel which is taking place in Singapore. The BWT system has a capacity of 300 m3/hr and has been supplied as a self contained skid mounted unit.

Groningen Seaports First in Line for Damen InvaSave

The first production version of Damen’s InvaSave ballast water treatment system – intended for use at Groningen Seaports – will be on display at the upcoming ‘DelfSail’ sailing festival between June 30 and July 3 in the city of Delfzijl, the Netherlands. Damen’s InvaSave ballast water treatment (BWT) system is intended to operate in ports and mobile operations as a fully containerized “plug and play” unit that provides ship owners with an alternative to retrofitting fixed BWT systems.
