Lower Snake River Issues Cause Concern for Barge Transportation Industry

The inland waterways report in September 2022 edition of Marine News focused on issues facing the Lower Snake River Dams (LSRD) in the northwest, in U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ (USACE) Walla Walla District.That report referenced issues and concerns confronting regional towboat and barge operators about possible changes to the Columbia Snake River System – perhaps even breaching the four Lower Snake River dams, a move with irreversible consequences.In August, a report by U.S. Sen. Patty Murray and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee was completed and the report’s recommendations were published.

Scrubber Barge to Capture Ship Exhaust in LA and Long Beach

A new barge is being built to help capture and treat stack exhaust from vessels in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.Produced and operated by Clean Air Engineering - Maritime, Inc. ONE, Maersk, MSC Suspend China-Australia Service

Container shipping companies Ocean Network Express (ONE), Maersk and MSC will suspend their jointly operated China Australia service (CAE) until at least the second quarter of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.The last CAE sailing before the suspension will be scheduled to depart Xiamen April 22. PROSTEP, NAPA Complete Meyer Turku Project

A partnership between PROSTEP, the product lifecycle management (PLM) consulting and solutions company and NAPA has successfully completed a ship design solution development project for Meyer Turku.NAPA and PROSTEP combined their respective experience to develop an interface for NAPA Designer, a 3D modelling and design software that meshes with Meyer Turku’s CAD.As a result of this project, NAPA and PROSTEP signed a formal cooperation agreement to work more closely together in the development of PLM software and CAE interfaces, as well as in the field of PLM consulting.

SENER to Design 1,200-Pax Ferry for Tanzania

Brazilian Shipyard BECONAL Uses FORAN

The SENER engineering and technology group has signed a contract with shipyard Bertolini Construção Naval da Amazônia Ltda (BECONAL), providing it with a license to use its marine design and construction system, FORAN. The scope of the contract covers installation of the FORAN system and provision of permanent licenses, including the Hull Forms, General Arrangement, Naval Architecture, Hull Structure, Machinery and Outfitting, Electrical Design, and Drafting disciplines. In addition, SENER is to give various training courses to the shipyard’s personnel.

FORAN Signs Contract with NODOSA Shipyard

The SENER engineering and technology group has signed a new contract with NODOSA SHIPYARD to install its FORAN CAD/CAM/CAE system to design and produce the shipyard's new projects. SENER Lectures on 3D Ship Digital Design

The SENER Group division in Shanghai has presented the FORAN System in the Dalian Ocean University (DOU) in China on October 28. Invited by the DOU, the Technical Consultant Zhi Jiang, from SENER´s office in Shanghai, gave the lecture ‘3D Ship Digital Design with FORAN System’ about the outfitting design with FORAN, one of its main design disciplines. More than 40 students from the School of Navigation and Naval Architecture of DOU have attended the lecture with great interest in FORAN.

SENER Unveils FORAN V80R2.0

The SENER engineering and technology group has taken part in the SMM Hamburg maritime trade fair, one of the most prestigious international meetings in the sector, which is held every two years, on this occasion from September 5 to 9. SENER, staying loyal to a tradition of over 20 years, attended with its own stand inside the Spanish Pavilion, in which it presented the stand-out features of the latest version of FORAN V80, the CAD/CAM/CAE system for the design and production of vessels. Update to FORAN Lets Users Manage Series of Ships

SENER has launched an update of its FORAN shipbuilding CAD/CAM/CAE system. Version V80R1.0, which was launched onto the market when FORAN celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015, was a revolutionary change. A year later, version V80R2.0 has added significant features such as a new geometric core and the ability to manage a series of ships (Applicability), in addition to other improvements in all of its disciplines. Developing the concept of managing a series of ships has been demanded by the market for some time, especially in the military field.

SENER Presents Study on Implementation of CAD System

At the annual COMPIT conference, the SENER engineering and technology group presented a technical/economic study on the implementation of a CAD system in a shipyard and, in particular, the FORAN System, developed by SENER. The event took place in Lecce, Italy, on May 9, 10 and 11. COMPIT is an international conference focusing on software applications and information technologies that have been well received within the marine sector. The event is always held in Europe. Rodrigo Pérez, from SENER’s Marine Department, presented the article ‘Learning Curve and ROI in the Implementation of a CAD System in a Generic Shipbuilding Environment’. The article provides an analysis of the FORAN system learning curve in a generic shipyard.

Canada Non-resource Exports to Surge in 2016

Canadian non-resource exports should post healthy gains this year, the country's trade financing agency said on Monday, a development the central bank is counting on to help revive an economy hobbled by weak global energy prices. Export Development Canada predicted the consumer goods, automotive and aerospace sectors would post double-digit growth in 2016 on the back of a robust U.S. economy. Industrial machinery exports should advance by 7 percent, it said. Overall exports are seen rising a modest 2 percent this year, held back by a 14-percent drop in the value of energy shipments. Canada is a major energy exporter and has been hit hard by slumping crude oil prices.

Hin Lee Shipyard Selects FORAN System

The SENER engineering and technology Group has signed a contract with the company Hin Lee Shipyard Co., Ltd. in Zhuhai, China, for the implementation of the shipbuilding CAD/CAM System FORAN, developed by SENER. After the evaluation of different ship design CAD/CAM systems, the shipyard has finally selected FORAN because its excellent functionalities, which cover all design stages from conceptual design to production design. The scope of the contract includes the installation of the FORAN System, including the Hull Forms, General Arrangement & Naval Architecture, Hull Structure, Automatic Nesting, Machinery & Outfitting, Electrical Design, Build Strategy and Drafting.

CAE Gains Approval for BRM and ERM Training

The Norwegian Maritime Authority (Sjøfartsdirektoratet)  granted approval to the CAE Oslo training center to conduct Bridge Resource Management (BRM) and Engine Resource Management (ERM) training. The training courses are designed to address human behaviour and attitudes which can lead to human error on the bridge as well as in control and engine rooms. The engineering and technology group SENER has celebrated the inauguration of its facilities in Manchester, the group’s base for engineering and construction in the United Kingdom, which have been fully operational since 2014. The inauguration event was held May 8 and was attended by local authorities, including City Mayor Ian Stewart and representatives from key clients such as BAE Systems and Babcock. The guests were received on behalf of SENER by its Marine General Manager, Rafael de Góngora, and the Manager of its Marine office in Manchester, Fernando Sánchez.
