New DNV GL’s Nauticus Hull & Sesam GeniE offers Versatility

The introduction of the IACS Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers (CSR BC & OT) makes support from advanced rule calculation tools more important than ever. The latest releases of DNV GL’s integrated calculation tools Nauticus Hull and Sesam GeniE offer designers and yards increased calculation speed and efficiency in design, CSR BC & OT rule calculations and the approval process. “We were one of the first classification societies to integrate support for the common structural rules into our tools,” says Vebjørn J. Guttormsen, Head of Section Calculation Tools at DNV GL – Maritime. “Since then, our tools have been used successfully in many newbuilding projects by yards and designers, especially in Korea, China and Japan, and the new versions build on this experience.

The Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation (Højteknologifonden) has invested in a project collaboration aimed to reduce older container ship energy comsumption by 10-20%. The collaborators in the project are MAN Diesel & Turbo, Maersk Line and DTU Mekanik (The Technical University of Denmark's Mechanical Technology Department). The collaboration partners explain that Increasing oil prices have resulted in the massive container ships that carry cargo to the four corners of the world having to sail at a slower speed in order to save fuel.

AWT Offers ECA Zone Calculator

Applied Weather Technology, Inc. today announced its BVS onboard software provides Emission Control Areas (ECAs) and calculation tools to evaluate the most cost effective voyage track. Using the latest version of BVS, captains manage their voyage track by displaying ECA zones and making them “no-go” areas. By doing this, they can see their voyage track outside and inside the ECA zones. Simply moving waypoints in BVS allows captains to visualize the impact of time in the ECA zone and compare it to the overall effect of time en route. The result is that the captain has the information to sail the optimal route. “With BVS’s ECA zone calculation tools…
