Calypso Withdraws Deepwater Application
On February 25, 2009, Calypso LNG, LLC informed the Maritime Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard it will cease all license processing work on the Calypso Deepwater Port LNG project, fully withdrawing its application from consideration at this time. As such, Calypso will not pursue the necessary approvals from the Maritime Administration or the state to license their proposed energy receiving facility off the coast of Florida. In 2007, Calypso (and its parent company, GDF Suez Energy North America) negotiated a landmark LNG tanker U.S.-flag and crew agreement with the Maritime Administration to operate its deepwater port with over 100 highly trained and well paid U.S. citizen mariners when it became operational.
MARAD Announces Meeting for License Application
The Maritime Administration (MARAD) issued a notice stating that the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Calypso LNG LLC, Calypso Natural Gas Deepwater Port license application is available for review and comment. The application proposes construction and operation of a natural gas deepwater port in federal waters of the Atlantic Ocean approximately 8 to 10 miles off the east coast of Florida to the northeast of Port Everglades. Calypso LNG DWP License Application
The Maritime Administration (MARAD) and the US Coast Guard issued a notice stating that they have received an application for licensing of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) deepwater port (DWP) from Calypso LNG LLC. The application calls for construction and operation of an LNG DWP in federal waters of the Atlantic Ocean approximately 9 miles off the coast of Florida northeast of Fort Lauderdale. 71 Fed. Calypso LNG Deepwater Port Application Deemed Complete By Coast Guard
Suez Energy North America's subsidiary, Calypso LNG, LLC has received a letter from the United States Coast Guard deeming complete Calypso's application for a Deepwater Port License. A Notice of Application will be published in the Federal Register which will start a statutory review period for approval of a license to build and operate Calypso's proposed offshore liquefied natural gas facility. On March 1, 2006, Calypso filed a Deepwater Port License Application with the U.S. Coast Guard, which has jurisdiction for the permitting, operation and security for such facilities located in federal waters.
