Nautical Institute's New President Outlines Top Goals

The newly elected President of The Nautical Institute, Jillian Carson-Jackson has vowed to help the Institute and wider maritime community meet three important challenges – those of diversity and inclusion, branch engagement and managing the impact of technology.Speaking at today’s Nautical Institute Annual General Meeting she announced a pledge from the Institute on diversity and inclusion saying: “There has been a concerted effort over the past years to raise visibility of not just women, but the overall role of diversity and inclusion in maritime.

Webb Receives SS Beaver Medal for Maritime Excellence

Rollie Webb, Senior Vice President at Robert Allan Ltd., was presented with the SS Beaver Medal for Maritime Excellence by the Lt. Governor of B.C. Judith Guichon on behalf of the Maritime Museum of British Columbia in a ceremony held on November 9 in Victoria. Webb joined Robert Allan Ltd. in 2008 and assumed duties as Senior Vice President in 2015. Canada Invests in a Greener Coast Guard College

Canada’s government has invested nearly $11 million to date for improvements and repairs to the Canadian Coast Guard College. The government of Canada is investing $8.6 million to replace the college’s roof, addition to $2.3 million already devoted to upgrading the emergency electrical system, announced transport minister Lisa Raitt on behalf of the fisheries and oceans minister Gail Shea. The investments aim to further reduce the college’s energy consumption while ensuring it maintains international standards for marine safety and environmental response training.

Bud Streeter is the new Vice President and Marine Manager for the United States, including responsibility for Panama, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Previously he was Lloyd’s Register’s Marine Manager Canada and, for the immediate future, he will retain his Canadian responsibilities. Bud has more than 40 years of experience in marine engineering, maritime security, and industry legislative affairs. He takes over from Graham Brown who retired at the end of November 2009 after 28 years of service. Based in Lloyd’s Register North America’s Fort Lauderdale office, Streeter will lead the U.S.

Boatracs Appoints New Personnel

Boatracs, a business unit of Advanced Remote Communication Solutions, Inc., has appointed new personnel to better service clients, and expand sales coverage in the Pacific Northwest. In newly created positions, Robert Trainor joins the company as Sales Engineer, managing activities for the Pacific Northwest, Alaska and western Canada, and Steven M. Bryan, Sr. as Manager of Projects, Design and Development. Both positions report to Charles J. Drobny Jr., Chief Operating Officer of Boatracs. Trainor is responsible for expanding Boatracs' regional coverage by delivering products and services that improve safety, integrate information, manage data, and facilitate fishermen's ability to obtain the best price for their catch while at sea.

Lloyd’s Register Americas Announces New Management Structure

Lloyd’s Register Americas, Inc. has strengthened its marine business organization to enhance the support it provides to clients throughout North and South America. With approximately 200 employees and a growing presence in the Americas, the strategically aligned management structure will help Lloyd’s Register sharpen its focus on client relationships and better facilitate the services it provides. Tim Protheroe has been appointed Senior Vice President - Americas Marine Business. He will have full executive responsibility for marine activities in the Americas and for implementing Lloyd’s Register’s global marine strategies in the region.

KMSS Receives New Contracts

Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) has announced a buoyant period for its training and simulation division. They have recently received contracts from the Canadian Coast Guard College, the Navy Academy in Taiwan and the AMA Computer College in the Philippines. KMSS has also opened a new training centre on its site in Horten, Norway. system from KMSS. giving students the opportunity to train from home and even on board ship. Navy Academy in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. station and 4 student workstations. replaces an already existing system installed by KMSS in 1996. Installation and training of personnel took place at the end of September. during October. site in Horten. and Bridge and Engine/Cargo simulators. the new training centre at KMSS. products. training courses on board ship.
