Chinese Shipyard Turns Into Car Parking
To cope up with so much financial strain, Hong Kong-based shipbuilders China Ocean Industry Group – formerly known as China Ocean Shipbuilding Industry Group – is literally being turned into a parking lot, reports Bloomberg. China Ocean Industry Group Ltd., which dropped “shipbuilding” from its name in March, acquired a car-park operator last year to meet an estimated shortage of 50 million parking spaces in the world’s most populous nation. The company plans to build and operate 100,000 lots in China within three years, contributing about 70 percent of total operating profit by then, according to Chief Executive Officer Zhang Shi Hong.
“AIDAcara” Opens Kiel’s 2015 Cruise Shipping Season
Kiel’s 2015 cruise shipping season gets under way on Easter Saturday, April 4th. That’s when the first ocean-going cruise ship of the year, “AIDAcara”, ties up at the Ostseekai Terminal after calling at Lisbon, Le Havre and Dover. During the coming season Kiel expects a total of 127 calls by 23 different luxury cruise liners, many of them very big ships of more than 250 m in length. Royal Caribbean to Develop Cape Liberty Cruise Port
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has announced that it has entered into an agreement with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for the cruise company to develop the next phase of Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, N.J. India Plans Expansion of Auto Exports
Ennore Port Limited (EPL), Chennai and Ford India Private Limited have signed an agreement for export of Ford cars though the Ennore port for a period of 10 years. Speaking on the occasion the Union Minister for Shipping Shri G.K. Vasan said that this is a part of series of initiatives by the UPA government for attracting investments in the infrastructure sector, particularly in ports and automobile sectors. The agreement provides for various volume based discounts on wharfage by EPL ranging from5-30% to encourage more exports through EPL. Ford India Private Limited has set up a modern integrated manufacturing facility at Maraimalai Nagar, near Chennai, for export of their automobile products.

New EnQuest HQ Taking Shape in Aberdeen
Work is now well underway to build a new North Sea headquarters in Aberdeen for the U.K. independent oil producer EnQuest. Aberdeen’s Lord Provost yesterday, Tuesday, November 12, gave his seal of approval to what is set to become a new landmark building in the city. EnQuest’s new HQ will replace the derelict Aberdeen Seafood Park in the city’s harbor area. The company currently employs around 500 people at two locations in Aberdeen, and will occupy the building, which will provide accommodation for up to 800 people when completed in 2015.
DHS Opens Headquarters on St. Elizabeths Campus
Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and General Services Administration (GSA) Administrator Dan Tangherlini has officially opened the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Consolidated Headquarters campus with a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the newly built U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters building. The opening of the new facility marks the completion of the first phase of the consolidation project on St. Elizabeths west campus. “Today, we take a major step forward in making our ‘One DHS’ vision a reality,” said Secretary Napolitano. “We are proud to provide the U.S. Coast Guard with a facility that will support the important work they do for the American people,” said GSA Administrator Dan Tangherlini.
