Hyundai Heavy Adds Trans Marine Propulsion to Service Network

Seattle and Florida based Trans Marine Propulsion Systems, Inc. (TMPS) has been added as a member of heavy industries company Hyundai Heavy Industries - EMD’s (HHI-EMD) Global Service Network and is their Designated Cooperative Repairer. TMPS will supply service under a nonexclusive agreement for the HHI - EMD. TMPS has locations in Seattle, Washington and Tampa, Florida and services most makes and types of diesel engines, including two-stroke, medium-speed and slow-speed engines for the marine industry and for diesel power plants. TMPS is one of the world's few service facilities that offer this range of experience. “TMPS is honored to be associated with a captain of industry such as HHI-EMD,” said Shane Roeser, TMPS President.

Great Ships of 2013: Shuttle Tanker RIO 2016 for TEN

RIO 2016 is the first vessel in a series of two shuttle tanker in Brazilian water operation, designed by Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd., two companies with a long and good historic relationship. This vessel was chartered to Petroleo Brasileiro SA. The ship is built under the survey of DNV and designed in accordance with IACS common structure rule (CSR). The vessel has six pairs of cargo oil tanks, two slop tanks, fore and aft peak tanks, segregated water ballast tanks, fuel oil tanks and fresh water tanks.

Japan: Advanced procedures sustain industry in turbulent markets

Japan retains its perch atop the world commercial shipbuilding heap, although its position grows increasingly precarious with the continued emphasis on shipbuilding market share by its Korean competitors, and the emergence of low-cost, hungry start-ups in China and the former Eastern bloc nations. The challenges facing the Japanese shipbuilders and ship equipment suppliers are not unlike those faced by its European counterparts during much of the past decade. While Japan's strong suit continues to be its ability to mass produce tankers and bulk carriers in a very efficient and profitable manner, its technical prowess and continually refined manufacturing procedures can only take it so far in what continues to be a labor intensive process.
