Navis Solution on Evergreen Newbuilds

Navis, the provider of maritime software solutions for cargo and vessel performance and compliance,  announced that its MACS3 loading computer will be installed on two newbuilding series of container vessels owned and operated by Taiwan-based Evergreen Marine Corporation.Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, said that due to the owner’s decision to have this loading computer installed, they are moving to support safer and more effective onboard cargo handling.The newbuildings are currently being built at two different Chinese shipyards. Navis Survey Acclaims AI

Global container terminals are expected to embrace automated decision making powered by artificial intelligence (AI) as they pursue ways to improve operational consistencies and enhance equipment utilization.According to  TechValidate customer survey by Navis, 88% of respondents indicated that automated decision making will be very if not extremely important for the future of innovation at terminals.Further, 83% plan to increase their AI investments over the next one-to-three years, signaling growing confidence in the use of innovative technologies to improve terminal efficiencies and gain competitive advantages, said the survey.Nearly 60 Navis customers participated in the survey…

OOCL Chooses Navis StowMan

Kalmar Intros Electric Reachstacker

Kalmar Helps Port of Long Beach to Meet Green Objectives

Kalmar's new all-electric terminal tractor is helping the Port of Long Beach (POLB) meet its eco-efficiency objectives while satisfying the commercial demands of the users of the second-busiest container seaport in the US.According to a press release from Kalmar, a part of Cargotec Corporation, POLB  in California handles trade worth in excess of $180bn from 175 shipping lines connecting to 217 seaports around the world. In 2017, more than 7.5 million container units passed through the port.US port operators are increasingly demanding more environmentally friendly machines and Californian ports have taken a lead in this respect by setting a target of having fully electric fleets by 2030.Ports present some unique environmental challenges given their frequent proximity to residential areas.

DP World Jeddah Upgrades to Navis N4

Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation, announced that DP World Jeddah has upgraded from Navis SPARCS to N4 3.5 terminal operating system (TOS). The implementation of the updated TOS is a move by the terminal to leverage the latest technology to meet continuous customer service demands and address the need for increasing operational support as incoming cargo volume rises. The explosive growth of international boxships is challenging not only the physical infrastructure of North American ports, but also the very nature of the existing supply chains that they impact. The recent dialogue on container shipping has been all about so-called “mega-ships;” those vessels that with larger capacity than those that are already in service at any point in time. Cargotec Sales Figures Plummet

Cargotec Corporation said that the orders received for H1 for the period of January-June 2017 decreased 4 percent and totalled EUR 1.7bln (USD 1.9bln). The total sales declined 5 percent and totalled EUR 1,638 for the period. However, Cargotec reiterates its outlook published on 8 February 2017 and expects its operating profit excluding restructuring costs for 2017 to improve from 2016 (EUR 250.2 million). Cargotec's CEO Mika Vehviläinen said: "The development of our business continued to be positive during the second quarter of 2017. The operating profit, excluding restructuring costs, was the highest in Cargotec's history. "In Kalmar, the orders received declined compared to last year. Nevertheless, the customer interest in port automation solutions continued to be high.

Cargotec Refinances EUR 300 mln Credit Facility

Cargotec Corporation entered into an EUR 300 million multicurrency revolving credit facility with a syndicate of its six relationship banks on 26th June.    The facility carries a tenor of five years including two one-year extension options. The purpose of this facility is to refinance the existing EUR 300 million multicurrency revolving credit facility, maturing in January 2019.    With this facility, Cargotec strengthens its long-term liquidity and takes advantage of the favourable market conditions.   The facility was coordinated by SEB and the Mandated Lead Arrangers and Bookrunners are Citi, Danske Bank, Nordea Bank, OP Corporate Bank, SEB (Facility Agent) and Standard Chartered Bank.

INTERSCHALT Shuffles Executive Management

INTERSCHALT maritime systems GmbH, a provider of maritime software for cargo operations and fleet management, NavCom services and manufacturer of VDR systems, announced a change in the company’s executive management today. This follows Cargotec Corporation’s acquisition of INTERSCHALT in January 2016. Robert Gärtner, who has served as CEO of INTERSCHALT since 2006, stepped down from his position on June 20 to pursue other opportunities. Two managing directors have now been appointed: Benoit de la Tour, President of Navis, and Rainer Twisterling, former Vice President Services at INTERSCHALT. In his additional role at INTERSCHALT, de la Tour will lead the integration of the company’s software business into Navis, part of Cargotec.

Basra Gateway Terminal Goes Live with Navis N4

Kalmar, RCI JV Begin Jetty Construction in Taicang, China

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, and Rainbow-Cargotec Industries Co., Ltd (RCI) celebrate the ground breaking of a new jetty at RCI's facilities in Taicang, China today. RCI is a joint venture established in Taicang, Jiangsu Province, China, in 2012 between Cargotec Corporation and Jiangsu Rainbow Heavy Industries. It is responsible for the production of Kalmar rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) and ship-to-shore cranes (STSs) for global markets.
