Carisbrooke Shipping to Trial a Hydrogen Engine

Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd have partnered with CARNOT whose consortium has been awarded £2.3 million to develop a zero-emission 50kW hydrogen auxiliary engine demonstrator under Innovate UK Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition.Following design, simulations and testing, the single-fuel hydrogen 50kW engine will be integrated into a containerized system and mounted on the deck of one of Carisbrooke Shipping's cargo vessels, Karen C, for a 40-day sea trial in early 2025 to partially supply electrical power to the vessel.The core goal is to validate the decarbonizing impact that high efficiency, zero-emission engines can have in the maritime industry and build on work from the previously successful CMDC 1 & 2 grants…

Carisbrooke Shipping, SMT Shipping Partner with Nautilus Labs

Nautilus Labs, a technology firm aiming to advance the efficiency of ocean commerce through artificial intelligence, announced its partnership to optimize fleet performance with joint venture partners Carisbrooke Shipping and SMT Shipping. Both Carisbrooke, based in Cowes UK, and SMT, based in Limassol, Cyprus, are dry cargo and multipurpose vessel owner/operators.Having first teamed up in October 2019, Carisbrooke and Nautilus have since expanded their partnership to over half of the Carisbrooke fleet.

The commercial short sea bulk activities of traditionally shortsea ship owners Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd and Nova Marine Carriers SA will be expanded and consolidated effective January 1, 2017. Carisbrooke Fleet Adds 8 General Cargo Ships

Carisbrooke Shipping has added eight 8,000 dwt general cargo vessels to its commercially-managed fleet. The vessels, TIP Oslo, TIP Copenhagen, TIP Helsinki, TIP Bremen, TIP Stockholm, TIP Leer, TIP Emden and Cremona, vessels were built between 2003 and 2005, with the TIP fleet offering ICE Class 1A flexibility, and mix of both single and tween-deck, geared and gearless vessels. Carisbrooke Takes Fuel Regulations in Stride

"Our first three months of Emission Control Area operation have run without a hitch," said Carisbrooke Shipping CEO Robert Wester. Since January 1, ship operators running vessels in Emission Control Areas (ECA) have been required to use bunkers containing no more than 0.1% sulphur in ECA waters. Carisbrooke said it is especially affected by the new regulations as it operates a fleet of some 60 vessels mostly on coastal and short-sea trades. Compliance options have included re-engining, scrubber installation or fuel-switching between waters in and outside ECA regions.

Northrop Grumman, Carisbrooke Renew Service Contract

Northrop Grumman Corporation has renewed its service agreement with U.K.-based Carisbrooke Shipping Limited. The contract will cover spares and labor for navigation systems, communication equipment and voyage data recorders onboard the 23 vessels, which include 6,000-, 8,000- and 12,500- Dead Weight Tonnage bulkers. Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine has supplied gyro compasses, autopilots, speed logs, radar and Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS) to these vessels. "This contract furthers the relationships between Carisbrooke and Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine," said John Fletcher, global service manager, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine.

If your vessel is trading in U.S. waters, you need to be aware of the new oil to sea interface law that comes into effect on Dec. 19, 2013. According to the new U.S. Environment Protection Agency Vessel General Permit (VGP), all vessels built on or after Dec. 19, 2013, must use an environmentally acceptable lubricant (EAL) in all oil to sea interfaces. For all vessels built before this date, unless technically not feasible, ship owners must use an EAL in all oil to sea interfaces. GL Completes EEDI Certification

Germanischer Lloyd (GL) presented Carisbrooke Shipping with energy efficiency design index (EEDI) certificates for four low emission dry cargo vessels. Built by Chinese shipyard Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, the four 8500 DWT sister vessels, the Vectis Eagle, Falcon, Harrier and Osprey incorporate a number of innovative features, including the distinctive Groot Cross-Bow(r). The four vessels, which have been built to Finnish Swedish Iceclass 1A, have been designed and constructed to optimize energy efficiency in almost every facet of operation.

Carisbrooke Shipping Chooses Thordon Bearings

Eco-conscious Carisbrooke opts for seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearings on latest newbuildings. The Vectis Eagle, an 8500 dwt multi-purpose dry cargo vessel, is Carisbrooke Shipping’s latest newbuild and first of their fleet to be fitted with Thordon COMPAC seawater lubricated propeller shaft bearings. The Finnish/Swedish 1A Ice-Class vessel launched in September 2011 and is currently carrying out its maiden voyage through the Panama Canal travelling from China to Haiti and Brazil.

Chinese Yard Launches SUPER GREEN 8500 for Carisbrooke

On Monday September 26, the Chinese shipyard Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Ltd. will launch Yno YZJ2010-931, the first vessel of the ‘SUPER GREEN 8500’ type for Carisbrooke Shipping. With this vessel the yard is the first Chinese shipyard launching a vessel with a Groot Cross-Bow®. Despite the economical difficult times more vessels with a Groot Cross-Bow® are under construction at the moment. The Dutch naval architect, Groot Ship Design, designed for Dutch / British Carisbrooke Shipping an innovating multipurpose cargo vessel, the 8500 dwt ‘SUPER GREEN 8500’.

Transas Marine Secures Order with Carisbrooke Shipping

Carisbrooke Shipping currently own/operate approximately 40 modern dry cargo vessels, ranging from 3,000 dwt up to 20,000 dwt and have actively been modernizing their fleet in the recent past with an average age today of around three years. They also have a new building order book which will add a further 15 units until the year 2010 from shipyards in , and . Canadian Shipyard wins $45M Order

Canadian Shipbuilding and Engineering has won a $39.6 million order for three new ships that will keep the St. Catharines, Ont., shipyard running at full employment for the next two years, Buffalo News reported. The order, which resulted from an alliance with Dutch shipbuilder Peters Kampen Shipyards that was announced last September, is expected to keep Port Weller Dry Docks' employment at 250 through the end of next year.
