Carnival Cancels Cruises in Early 2021

Cruise Ships Collide in Cozumel, Carnival Liner Damaged

Two cruise ships collided in a port in the Mexican Caribbean resort of Cozumel on Friday, causing damage to the stern of Carnival Corporation's Carnival Glory and leaving one passenger with a minor injury, Carnival said."Carnival Glory was maneuvering to dock when it made contact with Carnival Legend which was already alongside," Carnival said in a statement. Port of Seattle’s Cruise Season Underway

The Port of Seattle’s 2015 cruise season began May 1 at Smith Cove Cruise Terminal with the arrival of the Holland America Line Westerdam. The port expects 192 cruise ship calls this season, bringing an estimated 895,055 revenue passengers. “Each of these cruise ships contribute $2.5 million to the local economy, which comes out to over $400 million for this cruise season,” said Port Commissioner Stephanie Bowman. “We also want passengers to stay in the area an extra few days to spend more time and money in Washington state.

Panama Canal Cruise Season Kicks Off

The Panama Canal cruise ship season officially starts today, Wednesday, October 2, with the transit of the Celebrity Millennium. During this season, cruise ships will be transiting the waterway during the year of its 100th anniversary. The Celebrity Millennium, with a capacity of more than 2,000 passengers, marked the beginning of the season, transiting through the Panama Canal as part of a 15-day trip from San Diego, California to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in the United States. According to Albano Aguilar, international trade specialist for the Vice Presidency for Planning and Business Development, more than 200 transits are expected this season, an average similar to the past couple of years.

Coast Guard Completes Escort of Carnival Triumph

The Coast Guard escorted the disabled Carnival Triumph to the Alabama Cruise Ship Terminal in Mobile Thursday evening. The tug vessel Roland Falgout and four assist tugs towed the Triumph to the Alabama Cruise Terminal following more than a 100-hour voyage from Cozumel, Mexico to Mobile. Resources used to assist the Triumph: The 210-foot Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous and crew, homeported in Cape May, N.J.; Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile MH-60T crew; The 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Stingray crew; Three Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island 45-foot Response Boat — Medium crews; One Coast Guard Station Pascagoula boatcrew; Coast Guard Gulf Strike Team. The Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous arrived on scene Sunday night and safely medevaced one passenger to the Carnival Legend.

The cruise ship, disabled by an engine room fire, will probably be towed to Mobile,  AL. Carnival Triumph was originally intended for towage to the Mexican port of Progreso, however after drifting through currents in the Gulf of Mexico, she is expected to dock instead in Mobile. Some power has been restored including the freshwater system, which is back up and operational. Additionally, the sewage system has been restored to the forward section of the ship but is still down in the after part.

Carnival Heads Into Rough Waters

According to Lazard Freres and Co., the impact on Carnival's (CCL) business in the first week following terrorist attacks on September 11th is estimated at around $20 million, including loss of revenue from canceled cruises, port reposition costs, and additional transportation expenses. They have since dropped to about 50 to 60 percent of typical levels for this period, but cancellations, which had increased sharply in the days immediately following September 11th, have started to decline steadily with new bookings now outpacing cancellations. Luxury product continued to suffer in the quarter- the company has sold two vessels from the Seabourn fleet and reduced staff at Cunard/Seabourn by 25 percent.

Carnival Takes Delivery of Carnival Miracle

Carnival Cruise Lines has taken delivery of its 20th Fun Ship, the 2,124-passenger Carnival Miracle. The delivery took place during traditional handover ceremonies in Helsinki at Kvaerner Masa-Yards, the Finnish shipyard that constructed the massive $375 million SuperLiner. Kvaerner Masa-Yards has delivered the $375 million, 2,124-passenger Carnival Miracle, to Carnival Cruise Lines - its 20th Fun Ship - in the traditional handover ceremonies in Helsinki. For anyone who has ever had the privilege to attend such a delivery, seeing a new cruise ship rolled out in the middle of the Finnish winter is truly an awe-inspiring, if not one of the most ironic, sights. However, it is a testament to accrued cruise industry expertise and a stable infrastructure of equipment and system suppliers that keeps the shipyard at the forefront. Carnival Miracle is the sixth cruise ship in the Spirit class series of new Panamax-size cruise ships for Carnival Cruise Lines (four ships) and Costa Crociere (two ships).

Carnival Repositions Carnival Legend

Carnival Cruise Lines' new 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend will operate a series of eight-day "exotic" Caribbean voyages from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Nov. 10, 2002 - April 19, 2003, marking the first time the line has deployed a brand new ship to that port. Originally, this program was scheduled to operate from Miami. Carnival Legend's new Fort Lauderdale-based schedule is the line's first long-term cruise program from that port in more than a decade. Eight-day southern Caribbean cruises will visit St. City, Belize; Limon, Costa Rica; and Colon, Panama. Kvaerner To Build Cruise Ship For Carnival

Carnival Corporation contracted with Finland's Kvaerner Masa-Yards for the construction of a new 86,000-ton cruise ship for its Carnival Cruise Lines unit. The 2,124-passenger vessel, the fourth in Carnival's "Spirit-class," will cost approximately $375 million and is expected to enter service in spring 2004. To be named Carnival Miracle, the new vessel will join sister ships Carnival Spirit, set to debut April 29, 2001, and Carnival Pride and Carnival Legend, which are expected to be delivered late 2001 and summer 2002, respectively.

Carnival Reports 2Q Results

Carnival Corporation reported net income of $194.2 million on revenues of $989.2 million for its second quarter ended May 31, 2002, compared to net income of $187 million on revenues of $1.08 billion for the same quarter in 2001. Net income for the six months ended May 31, 2002 was $323.8 million on revenues of $1.89 billion, compared to net income of $314.9 million on revenues of $2.09 billion for the same period in 2001. Carnival Announces New Deployments

Carnival Cruise Lines will switch the homeport deployments of its 2,124-passenger SuperLiners Carnival Legend and Carnival Miracle beginning in spring 2007. Carnival Legend, which currently sails from New York and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will be deployed to Tampa to operate year-round seven-day western Caribbean voyages departing Sundays from that port beginning April 15, 2007. Carnival Legend Awarded RINA Green Star

Legend, delivered from Kvaerner Masa yard August 14, 2002, to Carnival Cruise Line. Carnival Legend is also built to RINA class. The 2,124-passenger vessel is a sistership to the already delivered Costa Atlantica (2000), Carnival Spirit (2001), and Carnival Pride (2001). Two more vessels, the Costa Mediterranea (2003), and Carnival Miracle (2004) are due to follow. construction and operation to maximize environmental preservation. Dench Serves as Carnival Legend Godmother

Dame Judi Dench, star of "The Importance of Being Earnest," "Shakespeare in Love" and the three latest James Bond 007 films, served as godmother to Carnival Cruise Lines' newest ship, Carnival Legend, at an official naming ceremony in Harwich, England, Wednesday, August 21. Oscar-winner Dench broke the traditional bottle of champagne against the ship's hull to officially name Carnival Legend. Dench was named a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1988. Built in Finland, the 88,500-ton 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend features 12 passenger decks, 16 bars and lounges, four swimming pools, a three-deck water slide, Internet cafe, 14,500-square-foot health spa, duty-free shopping mall, wedding chapel, video arcade, 1,800-square-ft. children's play area and three restaurants.

Carnival Corporation Reports 3Q Earnings

Carnival Corporation reported net income of $500.8 million ($0.85 Diluted EPS) on revenues of $1.44 billion for its third quarter ended August 31, 2002, compared to net income of $495 million ($0.84 Diluted EPS) on revenues of $1.49 billion for the same quarter in 2001. Net income for the nine months ended August 31, 2002 was $824.6 million ($1.40 Diluted EPS) on revenues of $3.33 billion, compared to net income of $809.9 million ($1.38 Diluted EPS) on revenues of $3.58 billion for the same period in 2001. Earnings for the third quarter of 2002 included a $34 million income tax benefit from the company's Costa Cruise operation resulting from a new Italian investment tax law. This was partially offset by a provision of $20 million related to a vessel write-down.

Carnival Legend

MS Carnival Legend, newbuilding no. 501, was delivered to Carnival Corporation at Kvaerner Masa-Yards' Helsinki shipyard this past August. Legend is the fourth cruise ship in a series of new Panamax-Max size cruise ships under construction for Carnival Corporation and operated by Carnival Cruise Lines and Costa Crociere. The first ship in the series, Costa Atlantica, was delivered in June 2000, and the sisterships Carnival Spirit and Carnival Pride in 2001. Measuring 960 ft. (292.5 m) with a maximum breadth of 127 ft. (38.8 m), a breadth of 106 ft. (32.2 m) and a draft of 25 ft. (7.8 m), Carnival Legend entered service August 21 with a three-day cruise from Harwich, U.K. to Amsterdam.

Carnival Legend Earns Perfect Scores

The new 88,500-ton Carnival Legend scored perfect 100s from both the U.S. Department of Public Health and Canadian Public Health Service during inspections in Baltimore and Halifax, Nova Scotia, earlier this month. The new 2,124-passenger vessel, which entered service in August 2002 and embarked on a six-day Bermuda cruise from Baltimore yesterday, Oct. 30, received perfect marks on all 42 items that comprise the U.S. encompass the Health Canada's Cruise Ship Inspection Guide. U.S. and overall cleanliness of the galley and other shipboard areas. The potable water supply used in spas and pools is also examined. "While Carnival ships consistently receive high public health inspection marks, perfect scores are quite rare. perfect marks from both U.S.

Costa Mediterranea Awarded RINA Green Star

The Costa Mediterranea, which was delivered to Costa Crociere by Kvaerner Masa-Yards yesteday, has become the latest state-of-the-art cruise ship to be awarded the Green Star logo by Italian classification society RINA. The 85,700 gt newbuilding was awarded the Green Star notation, a dedicated environmental standard for shipping. The 2,114-passenger vessel, which is built to RINA class, is a sistership to the Costa Atlantica (delivered in 2000), which was the first ship ever awarded the RINA Green Star. Other sisterships are the Carnival Spirit (delivered 2001), Carnival Pride (2001), and Carnival Legend (2002). All meet RINA's high voluntary standards of construction and operation to maximize environmental preservation.

Carnival Exercises Option For Third 84,000-Ton Cruise Ship

Carnival Cruise Lines has exercised an option with Kvaerner Masa Yards of Helsinki, Finland, for the construction of a new 84,000- ton ship expected to be delivered in 2002. The 2,112-passenger vessel, to be named Carnival Legend, will cost approximately $375 million. It will be a sister ship to the Carnival Spirit and Carnival Pride, both currently under construction at Kvaerner Masa and expected to enter service in early and late 2001, respectively. In addition to the three Spirit-class ships, Carnival Cruise Lines has three new 102,000-ton Destiny class ships scheduled to enter service over the next four years, including the Carnival Victory, expected to enter service Aug. 31, 2000, and the Carnival Conquest and Carnival Glory, slated to debut in 2002 and 2003, respectively.
