HX Appoints New CCO

HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions) has announced Alex Delamere-Whiteā€™s official appointment as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), following six months as acting interim CCO.Based out of the new HX HQ in London, Delamere-White will bring the global functions under one leadership model to further fuel HXā€™s long-term growth plans, including newly evolved roles for Nathaniel Sherborne and Jim Sayer. Sayer is appointed to SVP Global Marketing bringing together the global marketing functions under his leadership.

Harland & Wolff Wins Contracts for Dry Docking of Two Cruise Vessels

Harland & Wolff Group has been awarded a dry dock contract for two cruise ships from P&O Cruises and Cunard respectively that will occupy the Belfast drydock for 33 days in total. The companies have selected Harland & Wolff's 81-acre Belfast shipyard to undertake drydocking works on two of its ships - Aurora and Queen Victoria. The works due to be undertaken on both ships are standard drydocking operations.The first ship to dock under this agreement will be Cunard's Queen Victoria which entered service in December 2007.

Leibowitz Takes Over as Seabourn President

Carnival's luxury cruise brand Seabourn announced Thursday that Josh Leibowitz has been named president, effective immediately. He will report to Stein Kruse, group CEO of Holland America Group and Carnival UK.Leibowitz joined Carnival Corporation in 2013 as chief strategy officer and was also named senior vice president of Cunard North America in 2016. Carnival Corp on Friday named Josh Weinstein as its new chief operations officer as the company continues to grapple with the global COVID-19 pandemic.Reporting to Carnival Corporation President and CEO Arnold Donald, Weinstein's responsibilities will include oversight of major operational functions, including global maritime, global ports and destinations, global sourcing, global IT and global auditing.Weinstein will retain oversight of Carnival UK, the operating company for P&O Cruises and Cunard, which he managed directly for the past three years.

Fincantieri Cuts Steel on New Cunard Ship

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has cut the first steel  for Britishā€“American cruise line Cunardā€™s newest ship to start construction on the 249th ship of the luxury cruise line, marking an exciting moment in the companyā€™s 179-year history. The yet unnamed ship will be the second largest ship to fly the Cunard flag, and is set to reimagine the luxury cruise experience with an array of unique and exciting on board amenities.The first section of the ship is under construction at Fincantieriā€™s Castellammare di Stabia ship yard. BMT CEO Sarah Kenny is Maritime UK Vice Chair

Maritime UK has confirmed the appointment of Sarah Kenny as Vice Chair. Kenny is CEO at BMT Global.Maritime UK is the sectorā€™s umbrella body, bringing together the shipping, ports, services, engineering and leisure marine industries to drive growth by promoting the sector, influencing government and fostering collaboration. The sector supports just under 1 million jobs and contributes around GBP40bn to GDP.Kenny will start her two-year terms on 1 December. Carnival Scoops Up Port, Rail and Retail Operations in Alaska

A subsidiary of Carnival Corporation has reached a deal to purchase port, railroad and retail operations that form a gateway to the Klondike Gold Rush region, in a major push into the Alaskan tourism industry.Carnival, the worldā€™s largest cruise and leisure travel company, announced Thursday it has entered a purchase and sale agreement through its subsidiary Holland America Princess Alaska Tours to acquire TWC Enterprises Limitedā€™s White Pass & Yukon Route (WP&YR) division, which includes port, railroad and retail operations in Skagway, Alaska.

Steel Cut for P&O Cruises' New LNG-powered Ship

P&O Cruises marked a construction milestone last week as it cut the first piece of steel for its newest ship being built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg. The steel cutting ceremony was attended by P&O Cruises senior vice president, Paul Ludlow; Carnival UK president Josh Weinstein and managing director of Meyer Werft, Tim Meyer. P&O Cruises Orders Second Ship at Meyer Werft

Carnival Corporation announced it has signed a shipbuilding contract for a second cruise ship for its P&O Cruises brand with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft GmbH that is scheduled to be delivered in 2022. Similar to a fellow P&O Cruises sister ship due for delivery in 2020, this second new vessel will be the largest cruise ship to be built specifically for the British market. It will be 180,000 gross tons and will accommodate approximately 5,200 guests (lower berths). Both new ships will be registered in the U.K.

Women in Maritime: New UK Taskforce Established

Setting out to increase fairness, equality and inclusion within the maritime sector, Maritime UK has established a Women in Maritime Taskforce, a move welcomed by the U.K.ā€™s new Maritime Minister, Nusrat Ghani MP. ā€œI am delighted to see Maritime UK taking action to attract more women into our maritime industries, and I welcome this taskforce as an important first step,ā€ said Ghani, who is only the second woman to hold the Department for Transport portfolio for the U.K.ā€™s £40 billion maritime sector.

Meyer Werft Begins LNG Cruise Ship Build for AIDA

German shipbuilder Meyer Werft has laid the keel for AIDAnova, set to become the first cruise ship worldwide that will operate both at sea and in port fueled with liquefied natural gas (LNG). GE to Upgrade P&O Cruises' Oceana

P&O Cruises, part of Carnival Corporation & PLC, has chosen GEā€™s Marine Solutions once again to provide upgrades on board its 77,499-ton cruise vessel Oceana. Formerly known as Ocean Princess, the cruise ship was built in 1998 and had GEā€™s Syconum 2 electronic controller on board. Marine engineering company Atlantic Pacific Marine (APM) informs it has opened a new site in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to meet an increasing workload and customer base following another year of success and growth. Carnival Corporation & plc launched P&O Cruises UKā€™s newest ship, Britannia, in a naming ceremony held today in Southampton, England, to commemorate its entry into service for the P&O Cruises fleet. Christening the ship was Her Majesty The Queen, accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, officially naming P&O Cruisesā€™ new flagship. Britannia, the first of two new ships joining Carnival Corporationā€™s fleet in 2015, will be joined later this year by AIDAā€™s new flagship vessel, AIDAprima, when it begins regular service this fall.

Britannia sails into Southampton

Britain's newest ever superliner Britannia has arrived in its home port Southampton ahead of its official naming ceremony. Itā€™s the largest cruise ship built for the British market. It will bear the same name as the Queen's former Royal Yacht Britannia, which was decommissioned in 1997 after more than 50 years of service. The Queen will officially name the vessel in Southampton on 10 March. Capable of carrying more than 3,600 passengers and 1,350 crew, the 1,082-ft long vessel is the largest cruise ship designed specifically for the British holiday market. Boasting 15 passenger decks, 13 bars and 13 places to eat, the £473 million Britannia has a three-tier atrium, a 936-seater theatre, four swimming pools, and a multi-million pound art collection.

The naming will be a milestone in British maritime history and will be an event of great national interest. ā€œWe are honored and proud that Her Majesty will name Britannia almost 20 years after she named the P&O Cruises ship Oriana,ā€ said Carnival UK chairman David Dingle. The biggest ship designed exclusively for Britain, Britannia is touted as P&O Cruisesā€™ latest modern classic.

British Queen to Name New Ship

Queen Elizabeth II will christen P&O Cruisesā€™ new flagship Britannia in Southampton, England, on March 10. She will be accompanied by her husband, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. The naming ceremony of the new 141,000-tonne cruise vessel will take place at Ocean Terminal in Southampton, England and will be of great national interest. David Dingle, Carnivalā€™s UK chairman, gave the following statement: ā€œWe are honoured and proud that Her Majesty will name Britannia almost 20 years after she named the P&O Cruisesā€™ ship Oriana. And in a celebration of all things British Her Majesty will use a sparkling wine from the Wiston Estate Winery in Sussex for the bottle smash moment and naming ceremony.
