Fincantieri Lay Keel for New P&O Cruises Flagship

The 400-tonne keel section for the cruise ship has been laid in the building dock at the Monfalcone shipyard in Italy. The 3,611 passenger vessel, due to be launched in March 2015, will be the flagship of the P&O Cruises fleet, as well as the largest ever constructed for the British market. The ceremony was attended, among others, by David Dingle, Carnival UK CEO, Carol Marlow, P&O Cruises Managing Director, Enrico Buschi, Fincantieri Chief Operating Officer, and Carlo De Marco, Manager of Fincantieri's Monfalcone shipyard.

Cunard to Build New Queen Elizabeth

Cunard Line announced that it has ordered a new 92,000-ton liner, to be named Queen Elizabeth, scheduled to enter service in the autumn of 2010. Cunard, a unit of Carnival Corporation & plc (NYSE/LSE: CCL; NYSE CUK) signed an agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri for the construction of the new 2092-passenger ocean liner, which will be built at Fincantieri's Monfalcone yard at an all-in cost of approximately $700m. The vessel will be the second largest Cunarder the company has ever built. Cunard owns and operates the two most famous ocean liners in the world, Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2. Cunard's Queen Victoria Floated Out

Special ceremonies at Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard near Venice were held to mark the float out of Cunard's newest Queen, ocean liner Queen Victoria. During the float out, the valves will be opened and the dry-dock flooded for the ship to meet the sea for the first time marking the initial introduction of the new Cunard Queen to the water. This significant occasion marks the beginning of the final construction stages for the $522m sister ship to the lines flagship Queen Mary 2 and grande dame of the seas QE2. Ryan, who will be guest of honour at the event. Maureen joined Cunard in 1963 and is the only known person to have served on all Cunard Queens: Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, QE2 and Queen Mary 2.
