Wärtsilä, Samsung Heavy Industries Partner

Finland based technology group Wärtsilä and South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) will set out to develop more efficient solutions for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers and shuttle tanker vessels, under a new joint development project (JDP) agreement signed Wednesday at the LNG19 exhibition in Shanghai.According to Wärtsilä, who issued a press release announcing the agreement on Thursday, the JDP will build on shared knowledge and experience between the two companies. Overall cost optimization, including both CAPEX and OPEX, is among the project aims, it said.

Samsung Heavy Industries to Build Two LNG Carriers for Celsius Tankers

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) booked an order from Denmark’s  Celsius Tankers for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, securing an option for further two vessels.A press release said that SHI won a newbuilding contract for two 180,000㎥ LNG carriers from a European shipowner Celsius Tankers. The price is 187 million USD per vessel. The LNG carriers would be equipped with Mark-Ⅲ Flex type containment system with re-liquefaction to lower BOR. The vessels are equipped for environmental regulations such as SCR and BWTS. They are also loaded with fuel saving technologies including optimized hull design and propulsion…

Samsung Heavy Industries Wins a LNGC Duo for USD 370 mln

Samsung Heavy Industries(SHI) revealed on April 4th that a contract for two 174,000㎥ LNG carriers on BOD approval term. The price is 184 million USD per vessel(around KRW 195 billion). The latest LNGCs would be delivered in July and October 2020. The contract comes with option for two. The LNG carriers would be equipped with Mark-Ⅲ Flex type containment system with re-liquefaction to lower BOG. The vessels are loaded with fuel saving technologies customized for the owner's operational needs. The vessels are powered by X-DF, the trending duel-fuel engine that can use both natural gas and diesel as fuel. X-DF is highly efficient for it propels with its own power. The engine characterized by low pressure system assures safe operation for owners.

Wärtsilä to Supply Dual-Fuel Engines for Korean LNG Carriers

Wärtsilä has received an order from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. of Korea to supply four sets of Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines to power a series of 155,000 m3 dual-fuel-electric LNG carriers, with an option on four more sets. The ships were ordered last month by BP Shipping of the UK and are scheduled for delivery from Hyundai Heavy Industries' shipyard in Ulsan and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries' shipyard in Mokpo from the middle of 2007 onwards. Each ship will be equipped with two twelve- and two nine-cylinder Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines with an aggregate power of 39.9 MW. Delivery of these engines from Wärtsilä's Trieste factory will commence in early 2006.

LPG Fleet Rates Rise

The world LPG carrier fleet is forecast to expand from 14.5 million cu. beginning of 2005 to 24.6 million cu. m. by 2015. World seaborne LPG trade (including ammonia and petchems) is forecast to increase from 73 mt to 132 mt over the same period. These are some of the findings in the new detailed report – entitled ‘LPG Carriers: Market Prospects to 2015’ – which analyses the current and historical developments within the LPG carrier sector and examines the prospects for trade and fleet development under alternative scenarios, presenting detailed forecasts for trade volumes, fleet requirements and freight rates through to 2015. • The world LPG fleet was estimated at 14.5m cu.
