LPG Carrier Rescues Sailor off Nicaragua

A LPG carrier operated by NYK, Linden Pride, rescued a seafarer from a boat in distress 100 nautical miles off the coast of Nicaragua. While Linden Pride was sailing from Balboa, Panama, to Sendai, Japan on December 4, the ship came upon a disabled boat with one survivor requesting assistance, and immediately initiated the rescue. The rescued sailor was in good health and disembarked from Linden Pride off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on December 8 as directed by the U.S. Coast Guard. NYK Vessel Rescues 336 in the Mediterranean

On July 14, Hermes Leader, a car carrier operated by NYK Line, rescued 336 people in the Mediterranean Sea. On July 14, the vessel received an emergency call for help while sailing to port of Gioia Tauro, Italy after transiting the Suez Canal. The vessel immediately set a course for the given position and rescued 336 people in the afternoon. NYK Vessel Rescues Fishermen on Philippines Coast

On July 7, Crimson Polaris, a wood-chip carrier operated by NYK Line, rescued nine fishermen in distress off the coast of the Philippines. While Crimson Polaris was sailing from Australia to China through a navigational lane in the South China Sea on July 7, the ship’s crew members spotted the fishermen, pulled them to safety, and began administering first aid. The fishing boat had departed from Bolinao in the Philippines on July 3 and had overturned and sunk in bad weather two days later. The fishermen were rescued on July 7, and handed over to the coast guard the next day and returned home.

Green Award for MOL-managed LNG Ship

LNG Carrier Al Zubarah and Its Ship Management Company Earn Green Award Certificate. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today announced that the MOL-managed LNG carrier Al Zubarah and its ship management company MOL LNG Transport Co., Ltd. (President: Reizo Funakoshi), received a Green Award Certificate from the independent non-profit Green Award Foundation based in Rotterdam on December 13. The certificate, based on stringent audits, is given to vessels and ship management companies for excellence in safety and environmental protection. The Al Zubarah follows the LNG carrier Dukhan, managed by an MOL LNG Transport (Europe) Ltd. inLondon, which received the same certification in October.
