HMS Queen Elizabeth Set to Sail Home
The U.K. Royal Navy’s new 65,000-metric-ton aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, the largest warship ever to be built in Britain, has been undergoing sea trials since setting sail from Scotland's Rosyth dockyard in June, and is now set to enter her new home in Portsmouth in around two weeks. The warship will be the latest in a long line of famous Royal Navy ships to call Portsmouth home, though the exact date of the historic moment is to be determined depending on weather conditions. The window for entry will open August 17, with her arrival expected no later than the August 22.

The huge mid section of the UK’s first Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carrier will leave BAE Systems’ shipyard at Govan today, starting a 600 mile journey by sea to Rosyth, where the aircraft carrier will be assembled. Over 50 cyclists also left the yard , tracing the path of Lower Block 03 on land in an attempt to ‘beat the block’ to its final destination on the Forth and raise money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. Northrop Grumman Wins U.K.'s Maritime Surveillance Study
Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded a contract to perform a study for the United Kingdom's Maritime Airborne Surveillance and Control (MASC) program. This study will concentrate on a manned rotary-wing solution for MASC, which will provide the future maritime airborne early warning and battle management system. Follow-on phases are expected to further define the preferred option or options, working towards a production contract after further U.K. Ministry of Defence approval. Northrop Grumman's contract is one of several studies that have been awarded. MASC will be the airborne node of the Royal Navy's network-enabled capability -- the third element in its carrier strike capability and, as such, integrated with the Joint Combat Aircraft and the Future Carrier.
