Stena Bulk Sells LNG Carrier Stena Blue Sky

Tanker shipping company Stena Bulk on Thursday announced the sale of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier vessel Stena Blue Sky to an undisclosed Asian buyer.The sale of Stena Blue Sky follows the recent announcement that Stena Bulk had sold two LNG carriers to BW LNG.The successful transfer of Stena Blue Sky has already taken place. MOL Ups Offshore Wind Game with New Deals

German Government Funds Rotor Sail Install on Baltrader Cement Carrier

The German government is providing funding to support the installation of an auxiliary wind propulsion system on board a cement carrier vessel.Hamburg-based Baltrader Capital GmbH & Co. KG. has signed a contract with wind propulsion systems provider Norsepower for the delivery of one 24m x 4m sized rotor sail in summer 2024. The product will be fitted on the newest cement carrier of the Baltrader fleet, Cemcommander, designed by SDC Ship Design & Consultants GmbH and built by Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard (Group) Co. Ltd.The Norsepower rotor sail is a modernized version of the Flettner rotor.

New Wood Chip Carrier Will Collect Ocean Microplastics

A newly built wood chip carrier vessel recently delivered to Japanese shipping company NYK is equipped to collect ocean microplatics for researchers to study.The Stellar Harmony, built by Imabari's Iwagi Zosen Co., Ltd shipyard, was officially handed over on August 23. The vessel will transport wood chips mainly from New Zealand, Australia, North America and South America under a long-term contract between NYK and Marusumi Paper Co., Ltd.Once in operation, the ship will pump in seawater along its routes to collect microplastics floating in the ocean.

Bulk Carrier Operator and Chief Engineer Convicted for Dumping Offenses

Vessel operating company New Trade Ship Management S.A. and chief engineer Dennis Plasabas pleaded guilty in San Diego for maintaining false and incomplete records relating to the discharge of oily bilge water from the bulk carrier vessel Longshore.New Trade and Plasabas admitted that oily bilge water was illegally dumped from the Longshore directly into the ocean without being properly processed through required pollution prevention equipment. Oily bilge water typically contains oil contamination from the operation and cleaning of machinery on the vessel. The defendants also admitted that these illegal discharges were not recorded in the vessel’s oil record book as required by law.

Helsinki Shipyard Lays Keel for Swan Hellenic's Third Newbuild

Finnish shipbuilder Helsinki Shipyard said it has laid the keel of the third of three Vega-class polar expedition vessels for Swan Hellenic.The keel was laid with outfitted grand block 305 that arrived at the shipyard during week 50 in 2021 among several blocks for the newbuild on board the carrier vessel M/S Meri.Construction is proceeding smoothly, the builder said. More than half of the block deliveries have already arrived from the block supplier, and the rest of the blocks will arrive during April-May.

A Valaris drillship hit the Akti bulk carrier ship on Saturday, after breaking free its moorings near the VT Halter Shipyards and Chevron docks in Pascagoula,  Mississippi. BHP Unveils Its First LNG-powered Newcastlemax Ore Carrier

'Unprecedented' Ship-to-ship LNG Transfer Off Brazil

Wilson Sons, through its Towage unit, participated in the first ship-to-ship offshore operation for the transfer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through a ULGC (Ultra Large Gas Carrier) vessel of Q-FLEX type in Brazil. Mariner Medevaced From LNG Carrier Near Corpus Christi

An ailing mariner was medevaced from a Norwegian-flagged tanker approximately 18 miles offshore near the Corpus Christi Anchorage, Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders received a call at about 1 a.m. from the 908-foot liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier vessel Iberica Knutsen stating a 45-year-old crew member was having difficulty breathing and had collapsed. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medical evacuation.An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi launched to assist. The Dolphin crew arrived on scene, hoisted the man and brought him to the Corpus Christi Medical Center Bay Area in stable condition.

France's Next-generation Aircraft Carrier Will Be Nuclear-powered

France's next-generation aircraft carrier will be nuclear-powered and replace the national fleet's flagship warship, the Charles de Gaulle, in 2038, President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday.The 11th carrier-vessel in the French Navy's history will be built by French defense contractor Naval Group and equipped with the new electromagnetic aircraft launch system developed by U.S. company General Atomics, French officials said.The carrier will be 300 meters long and have a deadweight of 75,000 tons.
