US Aircraft Carrier Overhaul Deferred

The aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln's refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) will not start due to insufficient funding. Lincoln was expected to move to Newport News shipyard next week to begin the overhaul. However, as a result of the fiscal constraints resulting from the ongoing continuing resolution (CR), the contract for the refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) has not been issued to Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. The aircraft carrier will remain pierside at Naval Station Norfolk until sufficient funding is received to start the execution of the RCOH.

General Dynamics Awarded $25 Million for Submarine and Carrier Work

Groton, Conn. – The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat two contracts worth $25.2 million to perform nuclear submarine and carrier maintenance and modernization work in Groton, Conn., and Bremerton, Wash. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD). Under the terms of the first contract, worth $15.4 million, Electric Boat will perform the planning, engineering and design, prefabrication and shipyard tasks required to complete a dry-docking continuous maintenance availability for the Los Angeles attack submarine USS Annapolis. The work will take place at Electric Boat’s Groton shipyard and, at its peak, will engage about 150 employees. It is scheduled for completion by December, 2012.
