Chevron's Lubricating Oil Enables Fuel Flexibility in Marine Engines

Chevron Marine Products said Tuesday that four-stroke engine operators could benefit from its new lubricating oil's versatility.HDAX 9700 was created to provide a solution for engines that run on multiple liquid and gaseous fuels and applications that require a low-sulfated ash lubricant, Chevron said.According to the company, the HDAX 9700t is also suitable for dual-fuel marine engines, as HDAX 9700 has successfully completed more than 20.000 hours of testing on a Wärtsilä dual-fuel power plant.“HDAX 9700 brings many benefits for operators of four-stroke engines.

ABS to Class Two US-built OCVs

Offshore and maritime classification society ABS has been selected by Edison Chouest Offshore and Island Offshore through the company Island Ventures II LLC to class two next-generation offshore construction vessels (OCVs). The ULSTEIN SX165 design vessels, ordered through Island Ventures II LLC, will be built at Ulstein Verft in Norway and Edison Chouest's LaShip yard in Houma, Louisiana, in the U.S. The OCVs will be 28 m wide and 145.7 m long with accommodations for 200 people.

“Compliance with both RICE NESHAP and Opacity Limits is now possible with this catalyst that selectively oxidizes CO, but not NO. Precious metal catalysts are widely used in HAPs converters to reduce CO emissions from IC engines in order to comply with the EPA’s RICE NESHAP regulation. Platinum catalysts also convert the nitric oxide (NO) in the engine exhaust to nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which under certain conditions can produce a visible plume and cause an opacity problem.
