Brazilian offshore support vessel operator CBO has tasked maritime equipment manufacturer Wärtsilä, based in Finland, to convert one of its offshore vessels to operate with hybrid propulsion. The vessel selected for the upgrade is the 2012-built platform supply vessel CBO Flamengo. The ram luffing knuckle boom crane series has been extended by this model which is especially characterized by a very compact design. Since space on deck is an increasingly important issue in the offshore sector, Liebherr has developed a new solution which meets the customers’ requirements. With a small tail swing radius of less than 3 meters the new RL-K 2600 significantly reduces restriction on freedom of movement on platforms and vessels.

Companhia Brasileira de Offshore (CBO) has chosen Cobham SATCOM VSAT and Satellite TV (TVRO) antennas in addition to radio communication equipment for installation on six new Offshore Support Vessels (OSV). CBO’s state-of-the-art new OSVs have been commissioned to fulfil development contracts offshore Brazil and will be entering service during 2017 and 2018. The Cobham SATCOM equipment has been installed and is already supporting operations on the first of the new OSVs, with installation aboard the second vessel scheduled this month.

The first ships to be classed with Lloyd’s Register’s cyber notations have been delivered to Global United in Korea. Built by Hanjin Heavy Industries, in collaboration with Alpha Ori Technology, the ships have been awarded the notation Cyber (AL-SAFE) certifying the autonomous systems onboard as safe. This is the first real example of the digital transformation in shipping – the ships will operate in an autonomous mode for selected functions using cutting edge digital technology. The new cyber-enabled features allow crew to operate ships more efficiently. This is also the first example of a ship certified to stream data into a big data platform.

Brazilian ship owning company CBO’s vessel CBO Manoella is currently being retrofitted from an offshore platform supply vessel (PSV) into a ROV Support Vessel (RSV). The new Oceana shipyard in Itajai, Brazil has delivered its first newbuild, a platform supply vessel of the PX105 design from Ulstein Group. The vessel was delivered to shipowner Oceana Offshore on March 30, 2016, and on April 1, the vessel started on a six-year chart for Petrobras. Lifting the ban on U.S. crude exports could push the price of domestic oil up roughly $2.50 a barrel in the coming decade, a report from the Congressional Budget Office said on Wednesday.   "CBO estimates that authorizing exports of domestically produced crude oil without restrictions would increase wellhead prices of light oil by an average of roughly $2.50 per barrel over the 2016-2025 period, on an expected value basis," the report said.   The study, which weighs how crude exports could impact the federal budget, expects dropping the ban would stoke production and boost federal fuel royalties by about $1.4 billion in the next decade. Huisman officially opened its new production facility in Navegantes, Santa Catarina state, in the south of Brazil on Thursday, April 16. The facility is used for the manufacturing of offshore equipment for the Brazilian market. MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has secured a contract with the Brazilian shipowner and shipbuilder Grupo CBO. The contract is to supply Triplex deck handling equipment and cranes for four customised Havyard 843 anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS). The order was booked into first quarter 2015 order intake. The 81.5m Havyard 843 is a modern anchor-handling vessel with a maximum speed of 16 knots. It has a 400 tonne anchor handling winch and accommodation for up to 30. This Havyard design will be adapted to meet the particular requirements of Brazilian energy company, Petrobras. Two vessels will be built at Grupo CBO's Estaleiro Aliança yard and two at the Estaleiro Oceana yard.

Brazilian shipowner CBO has placed an order with ULSTEIN for a PX105 type platform supply vessel (PSV) design and equipment package. The deal encompasses design and an extended main equipment package, including the system solutions ULSTEIN IAS integrated automation system, ULSTEIN COM communication system and ULSTEIN BRIDGE complete integrated radio and navigation equipment. The vessel is designed to comply with the Brazilian state oil company Petrobras 4500 tender, and will be built at Aliança shipyard in Rio de Janeiro scheduled for delivery in Q3 2016.

Havyard says it is to deliver the ship design and equipment for four anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels that are to be built and operated by the Brazilian shipping company and shipyard group Grupo CBO. The contract has been entered into by Havyard Design & Solutions, which is responsible for the development of the ship design and for integration and coordination of the equipment packages. The contract also includes deliveries from other business areas in Havyard Group, including Havyard IAS (integrated automation and alarm systems), PMS (Power Management System) and navigation and communications equipment from Havyard Power & Systems. The equipment package also contains equipment from other Norwegian and international suppliers.

Caterpillar Marine informed that its Cat® power and propulsion solutions have been selected to power four AHTS vessels for Grupo CBO, headquartered in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Each AHTS vessel will be equipped with 4 x 6 M 32 C propulsion engines rated at 3000 bkW and Cat Propulsion controllable pitch propellers. Additionally, Cat will again power the third PSV in a series for Grupo CBO with 4 x 3512C diesel electric propulsion (DEP) generator sets rated at 1700 ekW as well as 1x C18 for harbor/emergency power. The 180 ton bollard pull AHTS vessels will be designed by Hayvard Design and Solutions, using an adapted version of its 843 design.

In January 2015, Huisman, the worldwide specialist in lifting, drilling and subsea solutions, and Brazilian shipping company and shipyard group Grupo CBO, signed a contract for the delivery of four anchor handling and towing winch packages for four new Havyard 843 AHTS vessels. The winch packages will be built by Huisman’s new production facility in Navegantes, Brazil, and delivery is planned for 2016 and 2017. The winches will be delivered with 50% Brazilian content. The Havyard designed 843 AHTS vessels will be built by Estaleiro Aliança (2x) and Estaleiro Oceana (2x).
