Kenya Plans More Cargo Train to De-congest Mombasa Port
The standard gauge rail (SGR) freight service will increase the number of daily trains on the Mombasa-Nairobi route in the next five months to facilitate faster movement of cargo between the port and the inland container depot (ICD) in Embakasi, reported the Nation. The report quoted China Communications Construction Company chairman, Lu Shan, as saying that the trains will have increased to 28 by December. He added that currently, they are operating 12 freight trains on a daily basis. As of now, the ICD has capacity to handle 450,000 Twenty-Foot equivalent Units (TEUs) per year, up from its original design of 180,000 TEUs. It receives four trains daily, carrying 108 containers each.

China Unveils Huge Island Building Vessel
China has has unveiled a massive island-building vessel, which has been called âa magic island-makerâ by its designer and is considered the most powerful vessel of its type in Asia, the state media reported. Named Tian Kun Hao, the ship is reported to have a deck the size of nine basketball courts and be capable of dredging up to 6,000 cubic meters an hour and digging as deep as 35 meters under the sea floor. The ship, capable of building artificial islands of the sort the country has constructed in the contested South China Sea, was launched last Friday at a port in eastern Jiangsu province, according to China Daily. The Marine Design and Research Institute in Shanghai, which designed the vessel, described it as a âmagic island-makerâ on Saturday.

Royal IHC wins multiple contracts for Dredgers
In the last two months of 2016, IHC saw a substantial increase in the sale of its vessels, equipment and engineering packages. Almost half of the total order intake over 2016 was secured in this period. âWe see market recovery in the dredging and renewables industry, and are positive that this will continue in 2017,â says IHC CEO Dave Vander Heyde. One of the highlights of the year end includes the sale of a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Easydredge 2700 from stock. Supported by the Argentinean bank BICE, the vessel was sold to Dragados Argentinos DASA S.A. (DASA) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After 19 months of building, trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) JUN YANG 1 left Kinderdijk on 15 August 2016. A ceremony to celebrate the on-time completion was held before the vessel set off for Guangzhou, China where she will be handed over to CCCC Guangzhou Dredging Company (GDC). JUN YANG 1, which has a hopper capacity of 21,393m3, is expected to arrive at her homeport at the end of September 2016. âIHC is proud to have completed this flagship for our customer,â said Alexander van Noort, COO IHC. Yidong Terminal Orders Hybrid RTG Cranes
Yidong Terminal has ordered nine additional retrofit hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) produced by integrator CCCC Shanghai Equipment Engineering (CCCCSEE) for Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. CCCC to Resume Sri Lanka Port Project After Suspension
China's CCCC said on Tuesday it had approval to restart the construction of its $1.4 billion real estate project near Colombo's port that was suspended a year ago on the orders of the Sri Lankan government. Sri Lanka's cabinet last week granted approval for China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) to resume the biggest foreign direct investment project in the country after suspending it in March last year. The project includes apartments, shopping malls, a water sports area, a golf course, hotels and marinas next to Colombo's main port which India uses as a main transhipment port. Wartsila to Equip Giant Dredger
A contract has been signed with the Tianjin Dredging Company, part of the China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) and the recently founded Dredging Group, under which Wärtsilä will supply the engines and all essential ancillaries for a new self-propelled cutter dredger. The vessel will be one of the largest and most advanced vessels of its type in the world, and will become CCCC Tianjin's flagship. The ship is being built at the Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries shipyard in China. The contract was signed in June. "We have a strong relationship with Wärtsilä and we are confident that they can provide the technology and support needed to make this project a success," says Mr G.M Liu Chang Yun, Ship New Building Management Department, Tianjin Dredging Company of CCCC.
Two New Hybrid RTGs for Port of Shanghai
Corvus Energy informs it will provide the battery systems for an additional two hybrid solutions for new rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) that will be produced by integrator CCCC Shanghai Equipment Engineering (CCCCSEE) for Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (ZPMC). The cranes are for Shanghai International Port Group and will be installed in Yidong Terminal, Shanghai. The new orders will add to a total of 11 RTGs with Corvus ESSs. CCCCSEEâs commitment to implementation of more efficient RTGs directly lessens the environmental impact of crane operations, Corvus Energy explained, adding, the use of battery hybrid technology substantially reduces fuel consumption and harmful fossil fuel emissions. Cranes equipped in this manner are proven in the field to operate at optimal efficiency.
CCCC May Build Terminal in Sydney Harbour
China Communications Construction Co. Ltd (CCCC). has agreed to build a highly automated container terminal in Sydney Harbour, depending on the results of a feasibility study to be conducted next year. Albert Barbusci, CEO of Harbor Port Development Partners (HDP), said that his company, which has the exclusive right to market the port of Sydney, has signed a deal with China Communications Construction Company related to the design, construction and ownership of a deep-water container terminal in Sydney. Itâs expected the multi-year development of the port will cost more than $1 billion. HDP also says discussions are underway on a potential equity stake in the project by the Chinese firm.
