US LNG Exports to Europe Grow

ClassNK Releases Guidelines for CNG Carriers
Classification society ClassNK has released its Guidelines for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Carriers. Global economic and population growth is bringing about increased energy production and consumption. In its latest forecast, CEDIGAZ, an international not-for-profit association dedicated to natural gas information, predicts that global natural gas demand will grow by 1.8 percent a year from 2013 to 2035 with the largest portion of this growth coming from Asia-Oceania and the Middle East. Natural gas share in world primary energy supply is projected to increase from 21.3 percent to 23.6 percent over the same period. As the demand and supply of natural gas increases, the volume of transportation of natural gas will also expand.
LNG Market Poised for Massive Growth
There has been plenty of talk recently about the birth of a spot and short-term charter market for lng carriers. Indeed some LNGoperators have formed strategic alliances to prepare for these potentially new trades. However, R.S.Platou Shipbrokers of Norway believes that the volume of LNGtonnage currently on order could yet force some owners to work short-term deals by the end of this decade whether they like it or not. According to the broker’s statistics, some 60 new LNG carriers will have been ordered during this year and, by the end of November, the orderbook consisted of 104 vessels equivalent to about 80% of the existing fleet.
Market Report: Long-Term Healthy LNG Ship Demand
The healthy LNG ship newbuilding orderbook is likely to continue through to the end of this decade. An additional 50 new ships will be required for delivery in-service within the next 10 years provided LNG growth continues at eight percent. This was amongst one of a number of detailed conclusions from recent research into LNG ship supply and demand, the results of which were presented recently at the North American LNG conference in Houston by Graham Marshall, V.P. Marine Support, Lloyd's Register Americas Inc. There are a welter of new liquefaction and re-gasification projects worldwide. Of course not all will come to fruition.
