Eureka Shipping Orders Cement Carrier for Great Lakes Trade

Eureka Shipping announced it has ordered a new cement carrier from Holland Shipyard Group in the Netherlands for scheduled for delivery in 2025.Eureka Shipping, jointly owned by SMT Shipping and The CSL Group, said the 12,500 dwt mechanical/pneumatic cement ship will replace two older vessels in the Great Lakes region while maintaining the same cargo capacity for operations.The newbuild will be fitted with a diesel-electric a propulsion system consisting of four generator sets…

Cement Ship Sinks Suddenly Off Philippine Port

According to the 'Cebu Daily News', A cargo vessel carrying 23,000 bags of cement has sunk less than a mile from Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City. All 17 officers and crew managed to swim to shore safely. While maneuvering in the seawaters between the pier of Super Shuttle Ferry and Gothong in Mandaue City, 0.8 nautical mile from the shoreline of Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City, the vessel hit a shallow area, causing it to tilt. The vessel returned to the upright but the crew later noticed that water had entered the ship and its engine room was already flooded. The crewmen were rescued later by Shuttle Service boat CLN, the Coast Guard said in its report. A coast guard staffer said the vessel is submerged, but its masthead can still be seen above the water.

Italian Ships Mobilized to Contain Oil

Italy’s Environment Ministry's fleet has been mobilized to recover the fuel and combustible oil of a cement ship that sunk outside La Spezia harbor, AGI reports. Three boats are on the scene, with other large units en route, hoping to vacuum and store the fuel. The first big unit to arrive will be the Tito. Also en route are the Mascalzone Atlantico from Porto Torres, the Tagis from Savona, the San Giacomo from Genoa and the Bonassola from Civitavecchia. Source: AGI
