Cement Ship Sinks Suddenly Off Philippine Port
According to the 'Cebu Daily News', A cargo vessel carrying 23,000 bags of cement has sunk less than a mile from Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City. All 17 officers and crew managed to swim to shore safely. While maneuvering in the seawaters between the pier of Super Shuttle Ferry and Gothong in Mandaue City, 0.8 nautical mile from the shoreline of Canjulao, Lapu-Lapu City, the vessel hit a shallow area, causing it to tilt. The vessel returned to the upright but the crew later noticed that water had entered the ship and its engine room was already flooded. The crewmen were rescued later by Shuttle Service boat CLN, the Coast Guard said in its report. A coast guard staffer said the vessel is submerged, but its masthead can still be seen above the water.
Italian Ships Mobilized to Contain Oil
Italy’s Environment Ministry's fleet has been mobilized to recover the fuel and combustible oil of a cement ship that sunk outside La Spezia harbor, AGI reports. Three boats are on the scene, with other large units en route, hoping to vacuum and store the fuel. The first big unit to arrive will be the Tito.
