Ardmore Shipping announced it is expanding its presence in Singapore this year as the company formulates a more geographically balanced senior management team.In Q4 2022, Ardmore’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Mark Cameron, will relocate from Ireland to Singapore where, in addition to his ongoing responsibilities as COO he will also assume the role of Managing Director of Ardmore Shipping Asia. One of his key areas of focus will be further business development opportunities in Singapore and the Far East.

A Belfast Maritime Consortium led by Artemis Technologies has won a £33 million ($41 million) U.K. government innovation grant to develop zero emissions ferries in Northern Ireland’s capital. The CMA CGM Group, a world leader in container shipping, has signed a strategic partnership with Infosys, a world leader in consulting, next-generation technology and services. The goal of this seven-year partnership is to simplify and transform CMA CGM's IT applications and improve customer service excellence. As part of this partnership and at the request of CMA CGM, Infosys will open a center for development and innovation in Marseilles, which will become a reference center of expertise, making Marseilles a high place of expertise. Infosys will also take over the CMA CGM IT development center in Dubai, allowing it to strengthen its presence in the Middle East. Infosys will provide CMA CGM with the skills needed to maintain its applications and develop its SAP projects.

Growing Italian engineering, testing, inspection, certification and ship classification group RINA has bought the major shareholding in Italy’s leading center for innovation in materials technology, CSM. According to RINA, the move strengthens its expertise in specialized steel processes and products, especially for the energy sector and in innovative waste to energy conversion technologies. Participants at a workshop exploring the use of titanium structure for ships found that it is not only possible to construct a ship hull from titanium—or Ti, it could be cost effective. The workshop was sponsored by the Office of Naval Research and hosted by the University of New Orleans, where an ONR research program on titanium ship structures is being conducted. Representatives of the shipbuilding industry, titanium suppliers, Navy, Coast Guard and Air Force labs, and academia discussed and examined materials, processes and applications. Most ships today are primarily made from steel.

Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) celebrated the kick off of the Naval Engineering Education Center (NEEC), launching a three-day conference at the University of Michigan, July 26-28. NEEC is a new partnership between NAVSEA and a consortium of 15 top colleges and universities as well as 2 engineering professional societies focused on developing the Navy's future science, engineering and acquisition workforce. “Sailors depend upon you to give them a ship with a technological edge. Engineers from Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Carderock Division, a Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) field activity, mentored middle and high school students at the Patriots Technology Training Center (PTTC) while they built small remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) July 3. The students attended a two-week PTTC summer camp on technology which involved constructing ROVs at Kenmoor Middle School in Landover, Md. Students also participated in an ROV competition in the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex (PGSL) swimming pool in Landover. The event was part of the Sea Perch program, coordinated and facilitated by the Navy's Center for Innovation in Ship Design (CISD).

Executive Director James A. Fein will retire from Naval Surface Warfare Center's Carderock Division in Bethesda, Md., completing 34 years of service. The naval architect started in 1969 at what was then the David Taylor Research Center. His previous position was that of Director, Hydrodynamics Group, Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) where he served as the senior technical advisor to the Navy for hydrodynamics issues related to ships, submarines and undersea weapons. Over the years, he worked for the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research and Advanced Technology, the Office of Naval Research (ONR), and the Carderock Division's parent command, NAVSEA. He was also a visiting professor at the Defense Systems Management College.
