Ferry Vessel Dagestan Completes Modernization
The vessel "Dagestan" with a length of 154.5 and a width of 18.3 meters was built in 1984 in Pula, the former Yugoslavia (currently Croatia). It was decided to repair and upgrade the ferry "Dagestan", withdrawn from operations 5 years ago. Modernization of the ferry, which is one of the unique vessels of its time, was completely executed by the engineering and technical personnel of the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company at the "Zigh" Ship Repair and Construction Yard. It should be noted that the project of modernization, the first in the history of the Shipping Company, was also developed by the personnel of the Shipping Company. Whole ferry management systems have been modernized. One of the main works is performed in the engine room.
ASNE Day 2009, NEO Vehicles
Attendees at next month’s ASNE Day 2009 Symposium at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, MD, will have the opportunity to view six assets from the Navy Expeditionary Overwatch (NEO) initiative. The NEO capability is a Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren-Office of Naval Research (ONR) initiative to provide state of the art communications, sensor and engagement platforms to warfighters on the ground as well as in the littorals. NEO consists of air, land and sea vehicles linked to a central control station over a common communications network. ASNE Day 2009: Naval Engineering in Support of 21st Century Maritime Strategy will be held April 8-9, 2009.
New Navy Contracts
Bechtel Plant Machinery Inc., Pittsburgh, Pa., is being awarded a $605,030,234 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-07-C-2102) for additional naval nuclear propulsion components. Work will be performed in Pittsburgh, Pa. (68 percent) and Schenectady, N.Y. (32 percent). Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year. No completion date or additional information is provided on contracts supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
