Siemens Gamesa Selects Contractor for First SOV Newbuild in Asia

Cyan Renewables, a portfolio company of Seraya Partners, will build Siemens Gamesa’s first service operations vessel (SOV) in Asia to facilitate the servicing of wind turbines for the Hai Long offshore wind projects in Taiwan.Siemens Gamesa awarded a 15-year charter contract to Cyan Renewables. Semco, PTSC M&C JV to Delivers Substations for Hai Long Offshore Wind Projects

Heerema's Aegir Heavy Lifter in Drop Fall Incident Offshore Taiwan

The article has been updated to include a statement by the Heerema Marine Contractors' spokesperson.Heerema Marine Contractors' heavy lift vessel Aegir has earlier this week experienced a drop fall incident off the coast of Taiwan where it is working on an offshore wind project."There were no injuries as a result of the incident, and no environmental impact has occurred. The piling frame and pin pile have only suffered minimal damage," the Dutch company said. "Work had just started on this project, and currently, foundation installation has been temporarily paused pending investigation.

Orsted Inks Taichung Lease for OWF

Orsted Taiwan Ltd announced that it has signed a 20-year wharf lease with Taiwan International Ports Corp (TIPC) for the development of its offshore wind farms (OWF) off Changhua County.The global offshore wind leader announced the signing of a wharf lease and a 20-year operations and maintenance (O&M) lease with the Port of Taichung, managed by Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC) and TIPC Marine Construction, respectively.The Ørsted leased wharfs at the Port of Taichung will be upgraded and utilized for the construction of the Greater Changhua offshore wind farms, and the O&M site will serve as the O&M base for Ørsted‘s Changhua offshore wind farms from 2022 onwards.Ørsted’s Greater Changhua wind farms are located approximately 35-60 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County.

SGRE Wins Hai Long 2 OWP

Spanish global renewable energy company Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has been selected as the preferred supplier of turbines for the 300MW Hai Long 2 offshore wind project in Taiwan.The agreement is subject to contract and final investment decision from the consortium partners, Canadian independent power producer Northland Power Inc. and Taiwan-based developer Yushan Energy.The 300 MW Hai Long 2 offshore wind power plant project was awarded through the 2018 grid allocation mechanism in Taiwan. The project site is located approximately 50 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County. The project will utilize SGRE’s existing footprint and supply base in Taiwan in order to fulfil localization requirements on the project.

Orsted Breaks Ground for Taiwan OWP

Construction of Taiwan's Formosa 2, an offshore wind power (OWP) development project, officially broke ground in Miaoli County.Orsted Taiwan said in a statement that it held a ground-breaking ceremony for the onshore substation works for the 900MW Greater Changhua 1&2a offshore wind farm off Taiwan.Ørsted awarded an onshore substation EPC contract to TCC last November. TCC will build two onshore substations, cable corridors, and transition joint bays for the first 900MW Greater Changhua projects. The contract, with an amount over NTD 7bn, is being now executed by Star Energy Corporation (SEC), a 100% subsidiary of TCC.SEC has hired more than 60 additional employees since last year.

ROC Navy to Have First Female Warship Captain

A young naval officer will soon become the Republic of China's first female warship captain after completing a series of stringent training and grueling tests. Naval Lt. Commander Hsieh Ai-chieh, 30, will set a precedent in the Navy of the Republic of China to lead the 500-ton domestically-developed Chinchiang-class auxiliary warship. Hsieh, growing up in central Changhua County, passed her opportunity to enter one of the top universities in 1944. Instead, she chose to attend the ROC Naval Academy along with 19 other female high school graduates. After her graduation in 1998, Hsieh held various positions in charge of telecommunications, intelligence, missiles, and anti-submarine operations. She is expected to be commissioned as the captain of a Chinchiang-class patrol vessel on Dec.
