The Canadian government has awarded a contract to shipbuilder Chantier Davie Canada Inc. of Lévis, Quebec, for initial work related to the construction of new Program Icebreakers. Davie Delivers LNG-powered Ferry
Canadian operator Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) has taken delivery of MV Armand-Imbeau II, a new environmentally friendly, 92-meter-long ferry built by Chantier Davie Canada.The new vessel will operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel, enabling STQ - Québec Province ferries operator - to minimize the environmental impact of its operations. Unsolicited Bid by Davie Shipyard
Quebec-based Chantier Davie Canada Inc. presented a bid, potentially worth up to a billion dollars, to the federal government last month offering a Polar Class 3 icebreaker, three smaller River-class icebreakers and two multi-purpose research, border control and search and rescue ships, says a report in the Canadian Press. The proposal by Quebec-based Chantier Davie Canada Inc. has the potential to undercut one pillar of the national shipbuilding strategy, which delegates the construction of civilian ships to Vancouver's Seaspan shipyard. In a presentation to Public Services and Procurement Canada, Davie is partially reviving a pitch made to the former Conservative government in 2013, where it offered to a construct a Polar Class 3 icebreaker and deliver it in 18 months.
Davie Inks Two Ship Repair Contracts
Chantier Davie Canada Inc. announced the signing of two new contracts, one with CSL Group and the other with the Canadian Coast Guard. Davie’s contract with CSL Group will see CSL Group’s MV Baie St. Paul arrive in the shipyard in January for a period of six weeks to perform repair and maintenance activities. The Canadian Coast Guard awarded Davies the contract for the vessel CCGS Des Groseilliers, carried out with the cooperation of Babcock Canada Inc. and involving the completion of Phase 1 of the life extension of this Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker.
Davie, Aecon Announce Cooperation Agreement
Chantier Davie Canada Inc. and Aecon Atlantic Inc. announced the signing of a cooperative agreement to work on marine-related projects. Skills and knowledge sharing on joint programs. Maritime Strategy Will Revitalize Quebec's Economy - DAVIE
Chantier Davie Canada Inc. (‘Davie’) commended the new Couillard government yesterday on its rapid launch of the Maritime Strategy, only a few months after its election. Davie’s chairman, Alex Vicefield, welcomed the nomination of a Minister for the Implementation of the Maritime Strategy, Mr. Jean D’Amour, as well as the concrete measures announced in Quebec’s 2014-2015 Budget on Wednesday, including the additional amortization deduction for shipbuilding and ship renovation. Vicefield added that “the Maritime Strategy is a robust and comprehensive policy which spans the maritime value chain and encompasses all facets of the industry, from intermodal and bulk logistics to tourism, marine biotechnologies and, of course, shipbuilding and ship repair”.
