Largest Italy-built Cruise Ship Delivered

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has said it has delivered the MSC Seashore - the largest cruise ship to be built in Italy - to the cruise division of MSC GroupAlso, Fincantieri said Monday that MSC Seashore's sister ship MSC Seascape was under construction at the Monfalcone shipyard. Two Newbuilds Delivered to Virgin Islands Port Authority

Louisiana-based shipbuilder Metal Shark said it has delivered two custom welded aluminum vessels to the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA).The new vessels, a 45-foot pilot boat and a 32-foot port security vessel, were designed by Metal Shark and built at the company’s Jeanerette, La. production facility. Both vessels were recently delivered to St. Thomas and transferred to VIPA and are now operating from the Edward Wilmoth Blyden IV Marine Facility on the Charlotte Amalie waterfront where they serve the island of St. Thomas and nearby St.

Cargo Vessel Refloated after Grounding off St. Thomas

A 223-foot cargo vessel that ran aground Tuesday morning near Charlotte Amalie Harbor in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands has been refloated, according to local responders. The Togo-flagged vessel Ocean Spirit I grounded just off of the entrance of the harbor’s East Gregory Channel while reportedly transporting more than $1 million of cargo from St. Thomas to Puerto Rico, including six huge propane trailer trucks, automobiles, lumber and food. There were no signs of distress or oil leaking from the vessel…

Cargo Vessel Runs Aground off St. Thomas

A 223-foot cargo vessel has run aground near Charlotte Amalie Harbor in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The U.S. Coast Guard said its watchstanders in San Juan where contacted at approximately 5 a.m. Tuesday by St. Thomas Harbor pilots who reported that the Togo-flagged cargo vessel Ocean Spirit I had run aground just off of the entrance of the harbor’s East Gregory Channel. There are no reported signs of distress or oil leaking from the vessel, according to the Coast Guard, whose marine casualty investigators are on scene investigating the cause of the incident.

Palfinger Crane Onboard Allure of the Seas

The Allure of the Seas is the second and latest ship in the Oasis class. On 16 decks it has space for more than 5,400 passengers and 2,100 crew. A Palfinger PK 150002 marine crane is used for transporting and planting trees onboard the ocean giant. The American shipping company Royal Caribbean Cruises and the South Korean STX Group signed the contract for the construction of the sister ship to the Oasis of the Seas in 2007. The Allure of the Seas was officially handed over to Royal Caribbean Cruises last November. With a length of 1,184 ft it is the world’s biggest cruise vessel.

Royal Caribbean's Freedom-Class Ship

Ferry American Pride Runs

The Coast Guard continues to coordinate the response to Saturday's grounding of the passenger ferry American Pride on Triangle Reef, just off the Charlotte Amalie, Saint Thomas Harbour, U.S. Virgin Islands. Fifteen passengers and three crewmembers aboard the American Pride were rescued from the vessel by Sea Tow Saint Thomas, and were reported to have suffered no injuries. The vessel had just departed the Saint Thomas Harbour and was headed to Tortola, British Virgin Islands when it ran aground. The Coast Guard was first notified about the grounding by a 911 operator. It was reported to the Coast Guard yesterday that the portside fuel tank of the American Pride had ruptured and approximately 350 gallons of diesel fuel were released into the water.
