Singapore Launches New Patrol Boats

Petrobras to join Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI)

Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has announced its intention to join the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative (OGCI). The company revealed that its CEO, Pedro Parente, has signed a letter of engagement so that the company can become an effective member of the voluntary initiative, which aims to lead the industry response to climate change. The OGCI is the CEO-led grouping of oil and gas companies that intends to lead the industry’s response to climate change, pooling knowledge and collaborating on action to reduce greenhouse emissions. Attestation / Endorsement services for seaman in UAE

The Maritime Administration of the United Arab Emirates has introduced services for the attestation of seaman contract and issuance of oil/chemical/gas tanker endorsement. This service is applicable for Crew working on UAE Flagged vessels that are engaged in International voyages are required to have their Seaman Contract attested by the  Administration. The service will be provided alongwith the issuance of Seaman Cards. This is applicable for both New and renewal of Seaman Cards. Fees charged will be AED 300/- per Seaman Contract. Crew working on UAE Flagged vessels (Oil / Chemical / Gas Tanker) are required to obtain Tanker Endorsement Certificate from the Administration. Fees charged will be AED 350/- per endorsement. certificate.

L3 MPRI Installs Simulator in Philippines

ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 15, 2011 – L-3 MPRI, a global provider of integrated training solutions, which includes simulation-based training systems, services and turnkey training facilities, today announced the installation of its Safe Cargo Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator (LCHS) in Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement’s (BSM) new Maritime Training Centre, which officially opened on Jan. 21, 2011 in Manila, Philippines. The simulator will be used to train and enhance the skills of personnel operating BSM’s extensive fleet of owned and managed liquid cargo vessels.

Veson Nautical, the U.S.-based developer of software solutions for the commercial maritime community, announced that it has teamed with DA-Desk, an independent provider of port cost management services to provide shipping operators with a fully integrated chartering, operations, financials and port disbursement system. The enhanced integration of the two solutions significantly minimizes error and improves workflow. Meeting the request of DA-Desk’s customers that use Veson’s IMOS, port disbursement data captured by DA-Desk can flow seamlessly into IMOS, omitting the need for duplicate data entry for ship operators. GL Rising Tonnage

With the classification of the gas tanker MT Gaschem Nordsee, Germanischer Lloyd (GL) has passed the 80 million gross tons threshold. More than 6,870 ships are currently surveyed on a regular basis by Germanischer Lloyd. September 2007. The MT Gaschem Nordsee, flying the German flag, was delivered in late March by Meyer shipyard in Papenburg. The LPG (liquefied petroleum gas)/ethylene tanker is the first of four gas tankers of the same hull type to be built in Germany by 2010 by the Meyer shipyard and its sister firm Neptun Shipyard.

Stolt-Nielsen and Oiltanking Announce Joint Venture

Stolt-Nielsen announced an agreement in principle between Stolthaven Terminals BV, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SNSA, and Oiltanking GmbH whereby Stolthaven Terminals BV will acquire a 50% interest in Oiltanking Antwerp N.V. for a total consideration of approximately $64 million, which is paid partly in cash and partly by assumption of outstanding debts. The agreement is subject to regulatory approval and will be retroactive to January 1, 2006. The terminal will be renamed Oiltanking Stolthaven Antwerp and will continue to operate as an independent liquid and gas storage provider. Oiltanking Stolthaven Antwerp is located on the right…
