Bucher Named CEO at Victaulic

Victaulic appointed Rick Bucher as Chief Executive Officer.

Victaulic appointed Rick Bucher as Chief Executive Officer, succeeding John F. Malloy, effective January 31, 2021. Dr. Bucher was named President of Victaulic in April of 2020, following a June 2019 appointment as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Victaulic in 2009 as Vice President of Engineering, Dr. Bucher worked for 15 years for W.L. Gore, a manufacturer of technologically advanced composite materials. Dr. Bucher received a B.S. and M.S. in engineering from Rice University and a Ph.D. in material science from Virginia Tech.Dr.

TASI Acquires SignalFire Telemetry

TASI HOLDINGS INC. announced today it has completed the acquisition of all shares of SignalFire Telemetry, located in Hudson, Massachusetts. On Board Fuel Blending

Dennis de Bruin, Marine Director at BMT Surveys, explains the current issues and new regulations concerning the on-board blending of fuels. Fuel oils are mainly a blend of oils and other components, for example; aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene and xylene. Gasoline, for instance, is a refined product of petroleum, consisting of a mixture of hydrocarbons, additives and blending agents. Its composition varies widely depending on the crude oils used, the refinery processes, the type of product demanded and its specifications.

Garlock Expands ABS Type Approval for Expansion Joints

Tianchen Selects AVEVA 3D Design Solution

AVEVA announced that Tianchen, one of China’s largest engineering contractors serving the chemical processing industry, has selected AVEVA Everything3D (AVEVA E3D) as its 3D design solution. The decision was based on the solution’s graphics, collaboration functionality and its ease of use, the company said. AVEVA E3D is the cornerstone of AVEVA’s Integrated Engineering & Design solution. This facilitates rapid project start up, design efficiency, standards compliance and removes rework by enabling right first time fabrication and construction. Tianchen had been working with AVEVA PDMS software for over a decade and this migration is a major step forward in increasing the efficiency of their design capabilities.

LR Statutory Alert: Bio-Fuels

Statutory alert: Changes to the requirements for the carriage of blends of petroleum oil and bio-fuels. The 62nd session of the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 62) agreed that from September 1, 2011, bio-fuel/petroleum oil blends should be carried in accordance with new Guidelines for the Carriage of Blends of Petroleum Oil and Bio-fuel. These are contained in IMO Circular MEPC.1/Circ.761. The Guidelines define bio-fuels as: ethyl alcohol (ethanol), fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), vegetable oils (triglycerides) and alkanes (C10-26), linear and branched with flashpoint of either 60ºC or less or more than 60ºC. Further bio-fuels identified as falling under the scope of the Guidelines will be listed in a new Annex 11 of the MEPC.2/Circular.
