Hafnia Grows Its Tanker Fleet by 44

Tanker shipping company Hafnia on Thursday announced it has completed its acquisition of 32 product/chemical tankers from Chemical Tankers and 12 LR1 tankers from Scorpio Tankers.Singapore-headquartered Hafnia, created through a merger between Hafnia Tankers and BW Tankers in 2019, now has an owned fleet of 152 vessels and commercially managed fleet of 242 vessels.“These transactions cement our position as the world's largest operator in the product and chemical tanker segment. Odfjell Adds Bow Odyssey to its Fleet

Odfjell SE,  a company specializing in worldwide seaborne transportation and storage of chemicals and other speciality bulk liquids, said that it took the delivery of Bow Odyssey - the third of its series of four newbuilt, 49,000 dwt chemical tankers.The Hudong class vessel was built by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co.Ltd Shanghai China.The so-called Hudong series consists of four sister vessels, all with the same high-end technology and advanced features that in 2019 earned the first vessel, Bow Orion, the award as ‘Tanker Ship of the Year’.With these four vessels as flagships, and in combination with a total of 30 new vessels that enter our fleet from 2017 throughout 2020…

Ektank and Utkilen Select Høglund Automation Systems

Tanker owners Ektank and Utkilen have selected marine automation specialists Høglund to provide automation systems on new chemical tankers currently under construction in China. The four 18,600 dwt tankers for Ektank, and the four 9,900 dwt tankers for Utkilen will be fitted with integrated automation systems that link together systems such as power management, cargo control and alarms. This new level of integration is essential for the vessels’ long-term performance and reliability, Høglund said.

PPG Unveils Phenguard Pro Tank Coating

PPG Protective and Marine Coatings has unveiled Phenguard Pro, a tank coating system that is intended to offer benefits for both shipyards and ship-owners. For shipyards and at installation, the coating system provides potential efficiency gains of over 20 percent compared to three-layer coating systems, PPG said. For owners it provides the wide chemical resistance and long carriage time of more than 3,400 cargoes, delivering maximum flexibility to the product tanker trades, according to the manufacturer.

Optimarin Opens Up New BWT Market

Ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist Optimarin has announced that it has received full EX approval for a modified version of its market proven Optimarin Ballast System (OBS). The approval means the Norwegian firm can now target the chemical tanker segment, augmenting the 310 unit orders it has already received and increasing a market share that currently stands at around 10%. Optimarin’s specially engineered EX model meets with stringent Zone 1 ATEX requirements, making it suitable for installation onboard a wide variety of tankers carrying flammable or explosive materials.

BW acquires 10 chemical tankers from Stream Tankers

BW has signed a purchase agreement to acquire ten chemical tankers comprising two ships built in 2008 and 2010 and eight newbuildings to be delivered between 2015 and 2018 from Stream Tankers. The two chemical tankers are from Japanese shipyards Fukuoka Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. and Shitanoe Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. The newbuildings are being built with the same shipyards and when complete, they will be equipped with eco-design hulls and fuel efficient engines. Andreas Sohmen-Pao, CEO BW Group, says:  “Stream Tankers has a fleet of quality vessels and newbuildings and BW is pleased to be acquiring this fleet. BW intends to manage the ships commercially through the WOMAR pool system.

Odfjell Reports Weak Q4 2012 Chemical Tankship Market

Stena Bulk, Concordia Team to Order 10 Chemical Parcel Tankers

As shipyards around the world struggle for business, Stena Bulk and Concordia Maritime confirmed an order of up to 10 in-house designed chemical tankers. The ships will be built at Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in China with deliveries beginning from spring 2014. When delivered, the 50,000-dwt vessels will be the most sophisticated in the Stena Bulk and Concordia Maritime fleet. The value of the order is $400 million if all ten ships are declared. The main task for the new ships is to cover the increasing demand for transportation capacity within the successful Stena Weco Pool.

Nordic Tankers, WOMAR establish “Nordic Womar” JV

Nordic Tankers A/S and WOMAR Logistics Pte. Ltd. have reached an agreement to establish a jointly owned independent pool management company with the name of “Nordic Womar”. Nordic Womar will initially manage two pools of coated chemical tankers with a total of approximately 40 vessels in the 10,000 to 25,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt) segment. The agreement is made in continuation of the joint marketing agreement that commenced 1 June 2010, where Nordic Tankers and WOMAR started marketing each others' coated chemical tankers in the range of 10,000 to 17,000 dwt in their individual areas of primary marketing strength.
