Kamsarmax Rotor Sails Install Expected to Deliver 10% Fuel Savings

The installation of rotor sails on board a 82,000 dwt Kamsarmax bulk carrier is expected to generate a 10% reduction in fuel burn and emissions.The TR Lady was retrofitted with three 5×24m rotor sails from Anemoi Marine Technologies at China's Chengxi Shipyard in June 2023. Eagle Bulk Buys an Ultramax Bulk Carrier for $24.3 Million

U.S.-based shipowner Eagle Bulk Shipping announced it has expanded its fleet with the purchase of a secondhand Ultramax bulk carrier for $24.3 million.The vessel, which was constructed at China's Chengxi Shipyard in 2015, will be renamed Gibraltar Eagle and is expected to be delivered to the company during the first quarter of 2023. Eagle Bulk did not disclose the seller."This transaction is well-aligned with the company’s growth strategy of enhancing its fleet composition. Specifically, improving the age profile of the fleet, increasing the cargo capacity per vessel and reducing emissions on a per deadweight ton basis," Eagle Bulk said in a press release. Oldendorff Orders Two Ultramax Bulk Carriers

German shipowner Oldendorff Carriers revealed on Tuesday that earlier this year it ordered two 61,300 dwt Ultramax newbuilds from Dalian Cosco Kawasaki Ship Engineering Co Ltd (DACKS) for delivery July 2022.The 61,300 Ultramaxes are of the Kawasaki eco design, of which Oldendorff had previously built nine units at DACKS and sister yard NACKS until 2019. Eagle Bulk Buys Two Ultramaxes

Eagle Bulk Shipping has acquired two Ultramax bulk carriers, the U.S.-based dry bulk owner-operator announced Tuesday.The first vessel, which was built in 2015 and will be renamed the Helsinki Eagle, has been acquired for $16.5 million. The second vessel, which was built in 2016 and will be renamed the Stockholm Eagle, has been acquired for $17.65 million. Both SDARI-64 scrubber-fitted ships were constructed at Chengxi Shipyard Co. Eagle Bulk Acquires Secondhand Ultramax

Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. has purchased a 2015-built bulk carrier for a purchase price of $16 million, the U.S.-based dry bulk owner-operator announced Wednesday.The ship, which will be renamed Oslo Eagle, is a high-specification SDARI-64 scrubber-fitted Ultramax constructed at Chengxi Shipyard Co. Ltd. in 2015. It is expected to be delivered into the Eagle Bulk fleet during the first quarter of 2021.The company’s fleet totals 48 ships, including 21 Ultramaxes acquired over the past few years.

Oldendorff Names First of Four Hantong Newbuilds

Scorpio Bulkers Sells Two Ultramax Vessels

Scorpio Bulkers, Inc. announced Wednesday that it has entered into agreements with an unaffiliated third party to sell two 2017-built Ultramax bulk carriers for approximately $34 million as the dry bulk shipping company continues its transition to offshore wind services.The ships, SBI Phoenix and SBI Samson, are expected to be handed over to the unnamed buyer in the fourth quarter, Scorpio said. Both vessels were built at China's Chengxi Shipyard.The bulk carriers are the fourth and fifth Scorpio has sold since its August announcement revealing plans to enter into a shipbuilding contract with South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) to build a wind turbine installation vessel for delivery in 2023, with options to build three further similar vessels.

Chengxi Shipyard Delivers Self-unloader to CL-Hartmann JV

Eagle Bulk Buys Ultramax Bulk Carrier

Eagle Bulk Shipping Inc. continues its fleet renewal strategy with today’s announcement that it has acquired a secondhand bulk carrier for a purchase price of $21.2 million.The ship, a SDARI-64 Ultramax bulk carrier, was constructed at Chengxi Shipyard Co. Ltd. in 2014.Eagle Bulk plans to rename the vessel M/V Hamburg Eagle and said it expects to take delivery in the fourth quarter of 2018.Upon delivery, the company’s fleet will consist of 47 vessels, including 13 Ultramax dry bulk vessels acquired over the last 20 months.

Oldendorff Conducts Trial Transshipment in India

German shipping company Oldendorff Carriers has conducted a new transshipment operation of coal between two vessels, in the deep, protected water of the Andaman Islands within the Bay of Bengal, India. The Andaman Islands are an Indian archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. There are roughly 300 islands, which are known for their palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforests. However, it was the deep and protected water that attracted Oldendorff Carriers to the Andaman Islands. "Our geared panamax Trina Oldendorff (75,053 tdw built 2013) loaded 73,086 mt of coking coal from Gladstone, Australia and sailed to the Andaman Islands," a statement said.

The delivery and naming ceremony of PACIFIC MERIT, an energy-saving and environment-friendly bulk carrier with 64 thousand DWT, tailor-made by China Merchants Energy Shipping  (CMES), was held in Chengxi Shipyard on 4 January 2018.    Capt. Scorpio Bulkers Acquires Four Vessels

Scorpio Bulkers, announced that it has entered into two separate agreements with unaffiliated third parties to acquire three Ultramax dry bulk vessels and one Kamsarmax dry bulk vessel. The deal was for an aggregate of $90 million, of which $77.1 million is payable in cash and the remaining consideration is in the form of approximately 1.592 million common shares of the Company to be issued to one of the sellers. All of the Ultramax vessels were built at Chengxi Shipyard Co Ltd in China, of which two were delivered in 2014 and one was delivered in 2015. The Kamsarmax bulk carrier is a resale unit whose construction will be supervised by the Company and which will be delivered from Jiangsu New Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Co Ltd in China in the second quarter of 2018.

WE Tech to Equip Ektank Vessels

WE Tech Solutions said it has received an order to deliver its permanent magnet shaft generator solution to two new 18,600 dwt chemical tankers with an option for another two. The tankers are built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Chengxi Shipyard for the Swedish ship owner Ektank AB. WE Tech’s equipment delivery to Hudong Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. will commence in October 2017. WE Tech’s solution is based on variable frequency drive technology (WE Drive) and the direct drive Permanent Magnet Shaft Generator. The solution allows the main engine to run at variable speed while the electrical network is generated by the Shaft Generator. Therefore, there is no need to run the auxiliary engines or generators when sailing.
