Electronic Technologies for Oil Spill Response in the Marine Environment

The California Department of Fish and Game and ChevronTexaco are jointly sponsoring the Electronic Technologies for Oil Spill Response in the Marine Environment Workshop. The workshop will be held on January 13-15, 2004 in San Ramon, CA. Space is limited to the first 100 persons.

ChevronTexaco to Operate New LNG Carrier

ChevronTexaco Shipping Co. LLC announced one of its affiliates will serve as the operator of the North West Shelf Venture (Venture) Gas Project's newest vessel, the Northwest Swan. The vessel is currently planned to deliver liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the project's Western Australian operations to customers in Japan, Korea and China, as well as provide opportunities to deliver into the LNG spot market. Mike Carthew, president of ChevronTexaco Shipping Co. LLC, said, "We are proud that ChevronTexaco has been chosen by the Venture participants to serve as operator of the Northwest Swan, the ninth and largest vessel in their fleet.

Offshore Market: Oil Prices Skyrocket but Rig Demand in the Doldrums

Worldwide demand for mobile offshore drilling units remains essentially flat, according to Houston-based offshore industry analyst ODS-Petrodata, although offshore drilling activity is expected to increase modestly in certain areas as the year progresses. U.S. Gulf of Mexico rig demand has fallen by eight rigs since December, but some indicators point to an increase in Gulf rig demand over the summer months. North Sea rig owners are facing a tough year, and more rigs are expected to leave the area. Other rig markets present a mixed outlook, with only West Africa likely to show a clear, sustained trend to increased rig demand over the next three to six months. LNG's March to the Sea

The LNG industry is beginning to move offshore, in part as a defensive tactic to avoid the safety and security concerns of local citizens to shore-based terminals and, in part, as an offensive move to access more gas reserves and possibly gain manufacturing and scale efficiencies. Project developers and the engineering contractors and equipment manufacturers that support them are working out the technical challenges of marinizing liquefaction, storage, loading, unloading and regas systems. "Moves to offshore facilities will change the economics of LNG project development," said Bob Nimocks, president of Zeus Development Corporation.

Subsea Houston 2002 To be Held Sept. 24

Subsea Houston 2002 will be held Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002 at the Houston Intercontinental Hotel. This, the 3rd annual conference, is expected to be attended by well in excess of 300 delegates. Last year's event, held at the Westchase Hilton and Towers was attended by hundreds of operators, subsea manufacturers, financial analysts and leading offshore service and supply companies. The focus of this year's event is development beyond 10,000 FSW. Global to Install Platforms and Pipelines for ChevronTexaco

Global Industries, Ltd. announced its subsidiary Global Industries Limited Mauritius has executed a contract to undertake platform and pipeline installation work in the Gulf of Thailand for Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd., a subsidiary of ChevronTexaco Corporation. This work forms part of ChevronTexaco’s Minimum Facilities Project (MFP) to expand oil and gas production in Thailand. Global will be responsible for installing five wellhead platforms and four pipelines as well as performing associated tie-in, free span correction, and testing activities. The offshore work will be performed in two phases to accommodate ChevronTexaco’s construction schedule and optimize Global’s barge utilization.

DHS Names Maritime Security Advisory Committee Members

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security today announced the appointment of the following individuals to serve on the National Maritime Security Advisory Committee. "On behalf of Secretary Ridge, I am delighted to welcome these advisors to our team," said Admiral Thomas H. Collins, commandant of the Coast Guard. The advisory committee has been established to provide advice to the Department of Homeland Security via the U.S. Coast Guard on matters such as national maritime security strategy and policy, actions required to meet current and future security threats, international cooperation on security issues, and security concerns of the maritime transportation industry as mandated by the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002. ABS will class the ChevronTexaco “Tahiti” truss spar, destined for deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Foss Spill Costs $5M

Foss Maritime Co., which was responsible for a December 2003 oil spill that fouled shorelines in Snohomish and Kitsap counties, will pay nearly $577,000 in state penalties, Jay Manning, director of the Department of Ecology (Ecology), announced. "This spill was miniscule compared to the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska and the cleanup effort was aggressive, but the effects were still serious," Manning said. A Foss barge spilled approximately 4,700 gallons of heavy fuel oil while being filled at the ChevronTexaco terminal at Point Wells in Snohomish County just after midnight on Dec. 30, 2003. Oil washed onto shore at the terminal and drifted across Puget Sound to coat beaches and the Doe-kag-wats marsh on the northern shore of Port Madison.

ChevronTexaco Orders Two LNG Carriers

ChevronTexaco Corp. ordered two LNG carriers from Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea to support the planned growth in the company’s LNG business. The new LNG carriers will have a capacity of 154,800 cubic meters each. Both carriers will be of membrane-type design and equipped with dual fuel diesel-electric propulsion. The two carriers are planned for delivery in 2009. ChevronTexaco Global Gas President John Gass said: "ChevronTexaco has large holdings of natural gas resources in the Pacific and Atlantic Basins. Gass noted, "It is important that our company invest now to meet the growing demand for energy in the future." He added, "ChevronTexaco is making good progress at securing market access for its LNG supply projects.

Bidding for PNG’s Offshore Oil Leases On

The Papua New Guinea Government received confirmation of global interest in bidding for 15 exploration blocks in the Gulf of Papua when 60 executives from more than 30 international oil and gas companies attended their inaugural road show in Singapore. The companies included the big British Gas Group, ChevronTexaco, CNPC of China, Hunt Oil Company, Korea Gas Corporation, Mitsubishi, Nippon, Pearl Energy Ltd, Petronas, Premier Oil, Repsol and Singapore Petroleum. Sir Moi told the audience that the area was selected because of their newly recognised prospectivity and proximity to onshore discoveries as well as finds in the offshore Papuan sedimentary basin.

CNOOC Completes Bohai Bay Appraisal

CNOOC Limited announced the successful completion of BZ19-4N-2D, an appraisal well drilled in Bohai Bay. BZ19-4N-2D, located on Structure BZ 19-4N on Block 11/19, was drilled in 23 m of water to a total depth of 2,390 m. Drilling of BZ19-4N-2D began in August 2005. The well encounters 98.5 m of pay zones. Two drill stem tests (DST) were conducted in two intervals. During the tests, the well flew about 770 barrels of oil per day and 0.15 million cubic feet of gas through a 7.94 mm choke. Block 11/19 is a PSC block with ChevronTexaco as the only partner.

DeepStar Names New Co-Chairs to Contributors’ Advisory Panel

Peter M. Lovie, P.E., vice president of business development for American Shuttle Tankers L.L.C., Houston, has been appointed to co-chair the Contributors’ Advisory Panel of The DeepStar Project, DeepStar Project Director B. John Sheets, of ChevronTexaco Exploration and Production Technology Co., has announced. ”Peter Lovie has been a tireless advocate for Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel technology in recent years and has broad experience with other systems through a 30 year career in our industry”, Sheets said. Lovie became Vice President, Business Development of American Shuttle Tankers L.L.C. in January 2002.

Tanker Orders Flood in For Chartco

ChartCo, has taken more orders for its ChartManager service from tow major tanker fleet owners. Greek company Avin International is the third major Greek shipping company, to sign up as a ChartCo customer while ChevronTexaco Shipping Company has signed up to ChartCo’s service following successful trials on two of its vessels. Avin International, a tanker operator active in the shipment of crude oil and petroleum products, chose to install ChartManager across its entire fleet following successful trials on aboard two of its vessels, the Kriti Amethyst and Sfakia.

ChevronTexaco Signs MOU to Bring LNG to West Coast

Photo Credit: IZAR ChevronTexaco Corp. today announced than an affiliate had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Gorgon Joint Venture in Australia for the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas for distribution to markets on the West Coast. Under terms of the MOU, a ChevronTexaco affiliate will enter into negotiations, the details of which are confidential, with the Gorgon Joint Venture which could lead to the supply of at least 2 millin tons of LNG annually over a 20-year period, beginning in 2008.

Stelmar Shipping Announces 18-Month Time Charter With ChevronTexaco

Stelmar Shipping Ltd. today announced that it has signed an 18-month time charter contract for the Rimar, a 1998 double-hull Handymax tanker. The time charter is expected to commence at the end of July 2003. The time charter contract is with ChevronTexaco at a rate of $14,000 per day. As part of the contract, ChevronTexaco has options to replace the Rimar with one of the Company's Handymax newbuildings at $14,500 per day and to time charter a second vessel at $14,500 per day for a similar duration. These options will be declared by the end of September 2003. ChevronTexaco's decision to time charter the Rimar follows a recent move by Fuel and Marine Marketing LLC (FAMM), a ChevronTexaco company, to renew time charter contracts for two other Stelmar vessels.

Smedvig Secured New Assignments for West Navion

Smedvig has been awarded a letter of intent by ChevronTexaco, U.K. for the assignment of the deepwater drillship West Navion. 1000 meters of water west of Shetland. to 45 days, with start-up late March. Furthermore, the existing contract for West Navion with Esso Norge AS has been extended by two months. The contract value for the extension period is approximately $ 10 million. is a sublet to Statoil, includes drilling of one deepwater exploration well in 1150 meters of water in the Norwegian Sea. This will keep the unit continuously employed for an estimated period from end March to October 2003.

CABGOC Awarded Contracts

ChevronTexaco Corp. announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. Ltd. (CABGOC) has awarded three major contracts for the first phase of the development of the Benguela, Belize, Lobito and Tomboco (BBLT) fields in Angola's deepwater Block 14. BBLT will be the second major development in the highly prolific Block 14, which has yielded nine discoveries to date. The Kuito Field development, which began production in late 1999 -- 30 months after discovery -- is Angola's first deepwater producer. The BBLT Development is located 50 miles (80 kilometers) offshore in more than 1,250 feet (381 meters) of water. Stelmar Shipping Delivers Ambermar

Stelmar Shipping Ltd. announced that it has taken delivery of the Ambermar, a newly built 35,500 dwt Panamax tanker from the STX Shipbuilding Co. ltd (ex-Daedong) in South Korea. Ambermar has entered into a previously announced 18-month time charter with FAMM, the commercial division of ChevronTexaco. Peter R. Goodfellow, Chief Executive Officer and President commented, “We are pleased to have received delivery of the Ambermar. In the first and second quarters of 2002, our company will receive delivery of three more new Panamax tankers, all of which are on time charters. ChevronTexaco Files Offshore LNG Application

ChevronTexaco has submitted a Deepwater Port license application to the Department of Transportation, United States Coast Guard to construct and operate a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) receiving and regasification terminal in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The development, also known as Port Pelican, would consist of an LNG ship receiving terminal, LNG storage and regasification facilities, and pipeline interconnection to existing infrastructure to deliver natural gas into the United States interstate gas pipeline network. Audie Setters, general manager of ChevronTexaco Overseas Petroleum's International Gas Group, said the Port Pelican project is evidence of ChevronTexaco's long-term commitment to supplying safer, cleaner and more efficient sources of energy to North America.

Stelmar Shipping Announces Time Charters

Stelmar Shipping Ltd. has renewed an existing time charter for the Primar and an existing time charter for the Petromar. The company also announced that it has signed a new time charter for the Allenmar, which had been trading in the spot market since the end of October, after being redelivered in late October from its previous time charter. Primar, a 1988 double sided product tanker, has been renewed on a six-month time charter with Adam Maritime Corporation at a rate of $11,250 per day.
