Lockport, La. based offshore support and subsea services provider Bordelon Marine said it has promoted Mike Belanger to chief operating officer and Chris Martin to general manager.Having served as Bordelon's general manager for 15 years, Belanger brings more than 40 years of industry experience to the COO position. During his tenure as GM, the company transitioned from operating utility vessels to opening a shipyard and building a trio of 260-foot DP2 subsea vessels that have been operated by Bordelon Marine for more than five years. Belanger is a military veteran serving seven years as an active-duty Marine. British Rower Resucued After Four Days
British solo rower, Daryl Farmer, who was taking part in the Great Pacific Race rowing from California to Hawaii, was forced to call for assistance four days after his start, having become dangerously dehydrated from sea sickness. Support boat OPA located Farmer and took him and his boat, ‘Bojangles’ (Bo), under tow on Saturday June 21 approximately 20nm off the coast of California. Heavy seas and high winds unfortunately snapped both ropes, leading to a man overboard situation for one of OPA’s crew.
Joint Safety Alert: DPS Failure on Vessels
Discussion: This Joint Safety Alert addresses a dynamic positioning (DP) incident on a vessel resulting in a loss of position while conducting a critical Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) activity. An equipment failure, an operational error and multiple failure modes not identified in the vessel’s Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) combined to produce the loss of position. The OCS activity – well operations that introduced hydrocarbon flow from a well to the vessel – was critical because of the potential for loss of position to result in personal injury, environmental pollution, or catastrophic damage. These consequences were averted because of the successful actions taken by the crew, who performed an emergency disconnect from the well in accordance with established procedures.
