LNG Tankers Diverted from India Ports as Surging COVID-19 Cases Hit Demand

Chevron, Hokkaido Gas Ink LNG Supply Deal

India and Russia Sign Energy Deals

Sinopec, Zhejiang to Build LNG Terminal in China

First LNG from Cheniere US to GAIL India

Cheniere Energy and GAIL (India) today marked the commencement of their 20-year Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) to supply U.S.-sourced liquefied natural gas to India from Cheniere’s Sabine Pass liquefaction facility in Louisiana, with one of GAIL’s first shipments departing from the facility. The ship will set sail after today’s ceremony to mark the occasion at Sabine Pass in the presence of Cheniere President and CEO Jack Fusco and GAIL Chairman and Managing Director Mr. B.C. Tripathi, who were joined by Consul General Dr. Anupam Ray, as well as representatives from Cheniere and GAIL. The SPA, which was signed in December of 2011, commenced on March 1, 2018.

Japan LNG Imports at 5-year High on Colder Weather

Japanese LNG imports reach 8.7 mln T in January, pressuring regional LNG market with China also hoovering up cargoes. Japanese imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) hit their highest in at least five years in January, with shipments expected to continue at a brisk pace this month as freezing weather keeps its grip on the world's top buyer of the fuel. Delfin Taps China for US FLNG, but Final Investment Decision 'Challenging'

Delfin Midstream, developing the first floating facility to export U.S. natural gas, has sealed a preliminary 15-year sales deal with city gas distributor China Gas Holdings, Delfin founder and Chief Executive Officer Frederick Jones said. But industry veteran Jones told Reuters in an interview that Delfin is also tapping unnamed Chinese banks to fund its ambitious $8 billion as the current global supply overhang in liquefied natural gas (LNG), with bumper exports also expected from Australia and Qatar, makes Delfin’s target of a final investment decision (FID) in 2018 challenging.

China's CNOOC Expands Fujian LNG Terminal

China's biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) importer CNOOC has started building two storage tanks at a receiving terminal in Fujian province for the super-chilled fuel, the official Xinhua news agency reported. The new tanks are part of a plan to increase the receiving capacity at the terminal in the southeast coastal province to 6.3 million tonnes a year, Xinhua said. The tanks are each able to store 160,000 m3 of LNG are part of a $3.7 billion in LNG projects that the Fujian government plans for the province to supply city gas to Fuxhou, Putian, Quanzhour, Xiamen and Zangzhou. CNOOC imported 13 million tons of LNG last year, accounting for nearly 70 percent of the total intake in the world's third-largest LNG importer.

Tokyo Gas Completes Hitachi LNG Terminal

Japan’s Tokyo Gas has completed construction of its Hitachi LNG terminal in Hitachi Port area marking the start of operations. The LNG terminal is equipped with a 230,000-kilolitre LNG tank that can hold about 100,000-110,000 tons of chilled gas. The Hitachi terminal has already received three cargoes this year, one from Malaysia's Bintulu and two from Russia's Sakhalin, says sources. Hitachi terminal is company’s first LNG terminal, located outside Tokyo Bay. By completing Ibaraki-Tochigi line, Tokyo Gas now owns 950km of high pressure pipeline network mainly around Tokyo metropolitan area. Tokyo Gas also said that it plans to build a new LNG tank at the Sodegaura LNG terminal on Tokyo Bay.

Japan's MHI Bags Indian Oil's LNG Storage Tank Contract

Indian Oil Corp (IOC) has awarded a contract to build two football stadium-sized liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks at its upcoming Ennore LNG import terminal in Tamil Nadu to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Pvt Ltd (MHI) of Japan. "We have received an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) order from Indian Oil  to construct two LNG storage tanks. The LNG tanks will be the main facility at the first LNG receiving terminal to be constructed on India's east coast. This is also the first LNG storage tank order that MHI has received from India. Construction of the tanks is slated to begin in July of this year; completion is scheduled for the spring of 2018," says a statement from MHI.

Wärtsilä, Hitachi Zosen Fuel Cell Power Plant

Wärtsilä and Hitachi Zosen have signed a business development agreement to develop and market fuel cell based power solutions for distributed power generation applications in Japan. The combined heat and power applications, which can be run on either city gas or bio gas, will feature the use of Wärtsilä's fuel cell technology.
