1861 - During the Civil War, Seaman Benjamin Swearer lands with troops from the steam sloop of war, Pawnee, and takes part in the capture of Fort Clark, at Hatteras Inlet, N.C. He serves throughout the action and has the honor of being the first man to raise the flag on the captured fort. For his gallant service throughout the action, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. 1862 - The gunboat, USS Pittsburgh, supports Army troops landing at Eunice, Ark., during the Civil War. 1915 - After pontoons are brought to Hawaii from the west coast…

ASNE to Host Gala and Navy Yard Tribute

Join the American Society of Naval Engineers on Thursday, February 20, for the Annual ASNE Honors Gala. A reception will open the night in the exhibit hall from 6-7, p.m., followed by the Awards Ceremony from 7-8:30. 2012 Annual ASNE Award Winners

Each year, the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) celebrates excellence in naval engineering by recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in one or more facets of the industry. 2012 Gold Medal Award (Engineering) Recipient - RADM Thomas J. Eccles, USN Presented annually since 1958, the Gold Medal is given to an individual who has made a significant naval engineering contribution in a particular area during the past five years. ASNE Seeks Nominations for Annual Awards

The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) Annual Awards Program celebrates excellence in the profession by recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in one or more facets of naval engineering. •    The Harold E. •    The Frank G. •    The Claud A. •    The Frank C. •    The Clifford G. Geiger Award for naval logistics. Nominations may be submitted by individuals or by organizations. The deadline for submitting nominations is 15 November 2010.

ASNE Day Slated for June 25 and 26

In Arlington, Virginia The American Society of Naval Engineers will ASNE Day on June 25 & 26. This event will address the challenge that is associated with designing and building naval ships and how important it is to take advantage of electric power systems. The event will include principal speakers like Gene Taylor, a panel that will be giving out information about affordable ship building, and technical paper sessions that include topics like modeling & simulation, as well as high power combat systems and sensors. ASNE Day to Feature Timely Technical Papers, Informative Exhibits

The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) annual exhibition, conference, and annual meeting, ASNE Day 2001, is set for April 30 - May 1, 2001 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Va. Attendees and exhibitors will have the opportunity to see the latest products on display and to listen to military leaders and industry executives discuss issues critical to naval engineering as we enter the next millennium.
