Threat to Whales Complicates US Research into Seaweed for Biofuel

In Cape Cod Bay, 10-year-old Pilgrim and her calf skim the water's glassy surface alongside the Shearwater research vessel to feed on tiny crustaceans.The two are among the last surviving 340 or so North Atlantic right whales left migrating along the U.S. East Coast – down from 480 right whales in 2010.The biggest threats they face include being struck by passing ships or getting entangled in ropes used for lobster fishing off the U.S. East Coast - scientists have recorded 98 such injuries or deaths of whales since 2017.Now, the whales face another threat as the U.S.

World First Full Scale 'Ammonia as Fuel' Marine Four-Stroke Engine Test

While there is no consensus on the marine industry ‘fuel of the future’ that will meet ever tightening international emission mandates, a group of organizations has commenced what it is calling the world’s first long-term, full-scale, testing of ammonia as a fuel in a marine four-stroke combustion engine. Wärtsilä, Knutsen OAS Shipping AS, and Repsol, and the Sustainable Energy Catapult Center, have teamed for the effort, as ammonia offers promise as a carbon-free fuel for marine applications…

GL Garrad Hassan Announces New Country Manager

Mr Dilip Kumar will take up the role of Country Manager for GL Garrad Hassan in India. India is the world's third largest market for wind, with annual installations doubling over the last several years. The reintroduction of a government subsidy wind farms and low coast loans for clean energy production should help to ensure that India's importance continues to grow as a center for the design, development and manufacture of wind turbines. Mathias Steck, Asia-Pacific Vice President for GL Garrad Hassan, announced the appointment, saying "Mr Kumar's breadth and diversity of experience will be invaluable to GL Garrad Hassan in helping our customers in dealing with the wide range of projects and geographical diversity they face.
