Amogy, developer of emission-free ammonia power solutions, on Tuesday announced it will open a new manufacturing facility in the energy and maritime hub city Houston. The Brooklyn-headquartered company said it will invest more than $40 million to renovate a 53,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that was formerly used to produce oil and gas equipment. The site is located within four acres of space that Amogy leases.Set to be operational in early 2024, the facility will be used for the assembly manufacturing of Amogy’s “powerpack” clean energy solution…

Offshore Wind Capacity to Exceed 100GW by 2030

The offshore wind power industry continues to grow at a steady pace - over 69 GW of new offshore wind capacity is expected to be installed between 2018 and 2027, exceeding 100 GW of operating capacity by 2030.According to a new report from Navigant Research, offshore wind will play an increasing role in the broader global energy transition to a more diverse and flexible energy economy.Though less offshore wind is installed annually compared to onshore wind, it remains an abundant clean energy solution for many coastal load centers where a greater proportion of population and energy demand is located.“Offshore wind will play an increasing role in the broader global energy transition to a more diverse and flexible energy economy…

Sailboat Water Turbine Doubles Energy Production

Watt&Sea Hydrogenerators produce power with a water turbine housed in a computer-optimized hydrodynamic design. Once a sailboat has left the docks, is totally isolated from utility (grid) power. The production of energy on any boat is crucial to powering communications, navigation lighting and other energy consuming devices. Operating diesel engines and generators are costly, noisy and are environmentally unsanitary. The clean energy solution is the Watt&Sea Hydrogenerator, which easily deploys off the back of the cruising or racing vessel efficiently generating power for energy independence.

Hydrogen for Marine Power Put to Test

Millennium Cell Inc., a development-stage company that has created a proprietary technology to safely generate and store hydrogen, announced that its Hydrogen on Demand fuel system will be used to demonstrate the utility of hydrogen fuel for generating power for ships and facilities in ports. The multiphase U.S. Maritime Administration (MarAd) program is being led by Seaworthy Systems, which will provide system integration and engineering for Millennium Cell's technology. The contract award comes at a time when many ports in the U.S. are well in excess of Environmental Protection Agency air and water quality standards, and are facing significant fines or even closure.

New Technology Has Promising Maritime Applications

Millennium Cell Inc., which designs and develops systems for the safe use of hydrogen fuel in energy applications, has teamed with Seaworthy Systems in a CCDOTT (Center for Commercial Development of Transportation Technologies) and California State University, Long Beach Foundation program. This program will demonstrate the benefits of using its fuel to power ships and facilities in ports. The project is designed to meet CCDOTT goals for zero emissions from fuel cells, and the contract award comes as many operators in U.S. ports are facing potential fines for being well in excess of Environmental Protection Agency air and water quality standards. "So there's a movement afoot right now in California to add regulation to reduce emission for all of the maritime fleet," said Rex E.
