Bureau Veritas Expands Marine and Offshore Services in N. America

Testing, inspection and verification services firm Bureau Veritas (BV) said it has taken a number of steps to broaden and deepen its marine and offshore services in North America.The opening of a new remote survey center in Miami is the latest step in the delivery of digital services across the Bureau Veritas network, providing yet further global coverage for remote surveys.Florida-based Tropical Shipping’s fleet has now benefited from remote survey services on three of its vessels sailing in the Caribbean trades.

Crowley Logistics Hires Bennett as SVP, GM

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced Brett Bennett will join the company August 3 as senior vice president and general manager of Crowley Logistics, succeeding Steve Collar, who retired last month after a 43-year career with Crowley. He will report to Ray Fitzgerald, Crowley’s chief operating officer, and work from the corporate headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.Bennett comes to Crowley from Wallenius Wilhelmsen Solutions where he served as senior vice president and head of global terminals and stevedoring.

Korea Line Buys $31.4m Biz from Hanjin Shipping

South Korea's Hanjin Shipping Co Ltd  will sell part of its container ship business to Korea Line Corp for 37 billion Korean won ($31.38 million), reports Reuters.   Korea Line will buy Hanjin's Pacific routes shipping business, relevant client management information, units in seven countries including the United States, China and Vietnam, as well as assets and manpower related to logistics systems, Hanjin said in a regulatory filing.   Hanjin said the sale, which will be completed on Jan. 5, 2017, is to secure funds to pay off creditors.    Hanjin applied for court receivership in late August after banks denied further financial support for the troubled shipper.

Delta Marine Workboat is a Windfarm Winner

Delta Marine said its vessel Whalsa Lass has demonstrated its versatility during recently completed works on the large windfarm off the coast of Grimsby, U.K. for one of the “Big 6” energy contractors. The windfarm consists of 73 Vesta V112 3MW turbines located in water depths of some 15 meters and is now providing electricity sufficient to power up to 170,000 homes. When the Shetland based operator chartered its Damen 2611 Multicat for a basic remit to serve as anchor handler for the cable laying vessel it had no idea what further scope of services the vessel would be called upon to perform.

Allianz Launch New Seafarers' Health Insurance Plan

Global health insurer Allianz Worldwide Care say they have launched a new plan which offers a compliant solution for on-shore health care to shipping companies affected by the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006), commonly known as the “Seafarers’ Bill of Rights”. MLC 2006, which came into force in August 2013, requires shipping companies to provide comprehensive rights and protection to the world’s 1.2 million seafarers, including the provision of a minimum level of healthcare cover.

Maersk Line wins 'Shipping Line of the Year' title at Supply Chain Asia (SCA) Logistics Awards 2012 in Singapore. The company was judged best in class among operators in the region – beating other finalists that included APL, Cosco, Hanjin, and Yang Ming. John Corris, Head of Regional Key Client Management, accepted the trophy from SCA on behalf of Maersk Line Asia Pacific Chief Executive Thomas Knudsen. “It is an honour for Maersk Line to win such an award. It validates our commitment to our clients to be a trusted and responsible partner now and always,” Corris said.

Max Hartvigsen has been appointed by Jaya Holdings Ltd. as the organization’s new President of the Offshore Division, effective immediately. Max will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for business development, profit and loss for the fleet of owned and chartered vessels, and operational excellence of the fleet, including technical management, operational requirements and client management. Hartvigsen holds a Masters of Science in Shipping, Trade and Finance from the City University London, a Master Maritime Course from Vestfold University College, Norway, and a Bachelors of Science of Nautical Studies (Captain’s Degree).
