Womersley Joins Stream Marine Training

Damen ASD Tug Delivered to Clyde Marine

Clyde Marine Services has taken delivery of its first Damen ASD Tug, the shipbuilder announced today. The Damen ASD 2310 has been named CMS Warrior, and she will join a 12-strong fleet of tugs and crew tenders at the Scottish company. Based in Greenock, Scotland, Clyde Marine Services was established in 1913 and has a long history of working with Damen vessels. The first experience of a Damen vessel was when the marine services company bought a Damen Pushy Cat in the mid-eighties. The fleet includes Damen Stan Tugs 1906 and 1907, as well as two Stan Tug 1s.

Clyde Marine Training Reports Short Course Milestone

Clyde Marine Training informs it has reached a milestone this week, welcoming its 10,000th person to successfully complete one of its marine short courses. Christopher Anderson was undertaking the Personal Survival Techniques course and he and the rest of the delegates on the course enjoyed a celebratory cake to mark the occasion. Clyde Marine Training runs more than 100 scheduled courses a year as well as a number of on-demand and bespoke ones covering STCW courses, personal survival techniques, basic safety training, maritime security courses and crowd management.

The Brits Turn Again to the Sea

Glasgow based Clyde Marine Training, the largest provider of officer training in the UK, reported that they have received over 5,000 applications this year alone, an 11% increase on last year and a 27% increase on 10 years ago. Not only has the number increased the quality of applicant has too, with more applicants having achieved 3 or more passes in A-Level, or equivalent standard, this year than ever before. U.K. Sees Rise in Merchant Navy Training Applications

Clyde Marine Training, the U.K.’s largest Merchant Navy Training provider current figures show the number of people applying to train at nautical college for a future merchant navy career has risen dramatically in the last 12 months. After collating statistics from the past two years we can report that application numbers are at an all-time high. The period 2011-2012 to 2012-2013 have seen a jump of 44% in the overall application numbers for the three main job types; engineers, deck officers and electro-technical officers. Drilling into this rise in Deck Officer applications, which has traditionally always been the most popular choice, in 2012-2013 they totaled 52% of all applications received.

Marine Engineering of Importance to U.K. Economy

A recent report by the Royal Academy of Engineering on Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) occupations found that demand for graduate engineers is exceeding supply. Since then, there has been more focus by the British Government on the education of engineers and raising awareness of engineering career paths within the U.K. With engineering being essential to a number of sectors there is a huge variety of career options available. There are career options in sound, safety, transport, aeronautical, energy and marine to name a few. Looking at engineering as a whole, SEMTA predicts that U.K. industry will need to recruit an extra 354,000 employees, to replace retirees up until 2016.

Maritime Training Company Strengthens Team

Clyde Marine Training, the UKs largest maritime training organization, has entered 2013 by strengthening its training division with a number of new starts. First to join was Allison Hume who arrived in October 2012, joining from a boutique maritime recruitment company in Singapore where she worked on recruiting merchant navy cadets and other experienced parties for various careers at sea. Alison was quickly joined by Hugh Mitchell in November 2012, who takes up the demanding role of Support Training Officer. Hugh previously enjoyed 30 years within Strathclyde Police, rising to the position of Police Inspector with direct involvement in the development of Probationary Constables.

Clyde Marine’s McMurry Young Business Person of the Year

Colin McMurray, Managing Director of Clyde Marine Training, celebrated success at the Glasgow Business Awards as he was presented with the award for Young Business Person of the Year. The award ceremony, which was held on Thursday 7th October 2010 at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow, was a prestigious event that allowed organisations from all over Glasgow to come together to promote achievement and celebrate success. Colin had an impressive career at sea for ten years before joining Clyde Marine Training in 2004.

Clyde Marine Recruitment Achieves MLC Accreditation

Clyde Marine Recruitment is the first UK manning office to be approved by Lloyds Register for provision of manpower to ship owners, ship managers and ship operators incorporating the requirements of the International Labour Organisation’s Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC 2006) as applicable to recruitment and placements.  This accreditation replaces the former ASMO (Approved Seafarer Manning Office) which Clyde Marine were also first to achieve in the UK.

Clyde Marine Training, the UK’s largest maritime training provider, has recently won a Glasgow Business Award in the category of Best Performing Business with 25 employees or less. The Awards ceremony took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on October 8. Clyde Marine Training’s recent service diversification has helped contribute to their success. They now provide assistance to businesses in all industry sectors in the areas of First Aid Training, Fire Safety Training, Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and Uniform and Safety Wear Supply.
