French container carrier CMA CGM announced Friday it has acquired from CHINA SHIPPING Ports Development Co. Cosco Shipping Ports  has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CMA Terminals Holding in Shanghai. The two parties have agreed to seek cooperation in ports worldwide and preference will be given to ports that the Ocean Alliance calls. Meanwhile, both sides have also agreed to provide support in terms of business and service to the ports that the other side has already invested. The consortium formed by CMA CGM, Bolloré and CHEC won the bid process initiated by the Cameroonian government Following the bidding procedure initiated by the Cameroonian government, the consortium formed by the French companies - CMA CGM and Bolloré - and the Chinese CHEC (China Harbour Engineering Company) won the 25 years concession. The Cameroonian government has chosen a French-Chinese consortium offering all the technical and financial guarantees. It is composed of CMA CGM - a worldwide leading shipping group and international port operator - Bolloré Africa Logistics - a reference logistics operator in Africa – and the Chinese company CHECH - one of the first civil engineering and building company in the world.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (“APSEZ”), India’s largest port developer and part of Adani Group, today announced the financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended March 31, 2015. Consolidated cargo across all ports handled by the company was 144 MMT in FY15, an increase of 28%, over corresponding period last year. Adani ports at Mundra handled 111 MMT cargo in FY15 thereby continuing its leadership as the largest commercial port business in India. Bigger container ships are resulting in much greater peaks in container terminal activity, which together with the ever larger combined volumes of bigger alliances, demands fewer, larger terminals in each port. Terminal operators are reacting by consolidating terminal layouts and ownership – and by working more closely together – but what are the consequences for their customers? A recent visit to the Eurogate terminal in Hamburg by China Shipping’s post-Panamax vessel CSCL Le Havre involved an exchange of 11,600 teu, illustrating the sheer scale of volumes per call that terminals increasingly have to deal with. The vessel is shared with CMA CGM and UASC.

The CMA CGM Group announced the improvement of its ASAF service which will deploy 12 vessels of 5,700 containers (TEU) in direct service to West Africa starting May 9, thus becoming the first carrier with vessels of this capacity to call West Africa directly, the company said. With the 5,700 containers (TEU) vessels calling West Africa in direct service, the CMA CGM Group said it confirms its ambition to reinforce its offer in the area and to support the economic development of the country. The ER Canada, the first 5,700 containers (TEU) vessel operated by the CMA CGM Group to call West Africa on the ASAF service, will arrive at Walvis Bay (Namibia) on May 9, Pointe Noire (Congo) on May 14 and Luanda (Angola) on May 17.

CMA Terminals, 100% subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, and ICTSI announced their future cooperation in Nigeria by signing a deal for ICTSI to sell 25% of the container terminal in Nigeria, Lekki International Container Terminal Services LFTZ Enterprise (LICTSLE) to CMA Terminals. This adds one further milestone since the signing of the subconcession for the terminal in 2012.
