USCG Tows Disabled Boat off North Carolina

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) rescued two people Thursday aboard a disabled boat approximately 50 miles southeast of Bald Head Island, North Carolina. Henry Fischer, aboard the 33-foot sport fishing boat Atlanta, contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center watchstanders at approximately 5:15 p.m. Wednesday requesting assistance after his boat lost steering. Sector watchstanders dispatched a crew aboard a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Coast Guard Station Oak Island, North Carolina, to assist. The MLB crew arrived on scene at approximately 10 p.m. Wednesday and placed the Atlanta in tow. A second crew from Station Oak Island got underway aboard a 25-foot Response Boat - Small at approximately 4:25 a.m. Thursday to relieve the first crew from their tow.

USCG Medevacs Cruise Ship Crewman

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) said it medevaced a 42-year-old male crewmember Wednesday from a cruise ship approximately 25 miles east of Cape Lookout, N.C. The captain of the 950-foot cruise ship Carnival Splendor notified Coast Guard Sector North Carolina command center watchstander at approximately 6 p.m. stating Efendi was is in medical distress. Coast Guard watchstanders launched a crew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to assist.

Two Rescued rom Sinking Vessel

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people Saturday from a fishing boat taking on water approximately 40 miles east of False Cape State Park in Virginia Beach. Crewmembers aboard the Lauren Dorothy, a 53-foot fishing boat, contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center watchstanders at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday requesting assistance after their boat began taking on water. Sector watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and diverted crews aboard an HC-130 Hercules aircraft and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City…

Man Rescued from Liferaft 20 Miles from Atlantic Beach

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a 51-year-old Jay White aboard a liferaft Tuesday after the man abandoned his 28-foot sailboat, Dove, 20 miles south of Atlantic Beach, N.C. White contacted Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center watchstanders at approximately 7:15 a.m. via a mayday call on a VHF-FM marine radio stating that his boat was taking on water. Likely Distress Hoax Call: Coastguard Seek Information

The Coast Guard is investigating a possible hoax call after multiple Coast Guard assets and partner agencies responded to a distress call that was made via VHF-FM channel 16, Sunday at approximately 2:45 a.m. near Beaufort, N.C. As part of this investigation, the Coast Guard is seeking the public’s assistance to identify the caller or provide additional information. Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center watchstanders received a mayday call Sunday via VHF- Channel 16.
