Scot Tanker Opts for MarineLine Coatings

Advanced Polymer Coatings (APC) has signed a contract with Scot Tanker, based in Istanbul, Turkey, for up to eight chemical tanker retrofits using the patented MarineLine polymer cargo tank coating system. These eight chemical ships became available on the market and were purchased by Scot Tanker to meet growing demand from its customers. The ships are each approximately 8,000dwt, with 14 cargo tanks and two slop tanks each. The ships, named after German cities, are the: Scot Hamburg (built in 2002)…

Navig8 Expands Chemical Tanker Fleet

Navig8 Chemical Tankers has announced that it has entered into contracts to purchase four 49,000 dwt IMO2 eco-design, Interline-coated chemical tankers to be built at STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Korea ("STX"). The company also announced that it has secured options to purchase six additional sister vessels from STX. The vessels will be built to the same technical specifications as the Company's preexisting orders with STX, including the capability to transport methanol and other specialty cargoes.

Odfjell Results ‘Improving, But Not Yet Sustainable’

Odfjell reported third quarter 2014 chemical tankers EBITDA of $26 million, compared with $24 million in second quarter, as activity in the chemical tanker markets in third quarter was quite similar that of the previous period. Reduced spot trading to Asia from Europe and the U.S. caused downward pressure on freight rates as fewer cargoes where available. Time-charter results were down by 3%. Towards the end of the quarter the CPP market improved, which the company expects will positively affect also the chemical tanker sector.

China Shipyards Bag the Week's Ocean-going Newbuild Orders

Reported ordering this week has been exclusively focussed on the Chinese yards, says Clarkson Hellas in their latest 'S&P Weekly Bulletin'. COSCO Shipyards have announced a number of orders, inform Clarkson Hellas with two firm plus two option x 82,000 dwt Kamsarmaxes contracted for KC Maritime and a two further 82k Kamsarmax for a European owner. Both orders were placed at COSCO Dalian, with delivery from the later part of 2015 and the majority to be delivered in the first half of 2016. At COSCO Zhoushan, KC Maritime have also increased their orders for 64,000 dwt Ultramax by adding two further vessels taking the total series to four. The latest additions are due for delivery in the first quarter of 2016.

Nordic Tankers: 2Q "Slightly Improved"

The second quarter of 2011 saw slightly improved time charter equivalent (TCE) revenue resulting in improved results compared to the first quarter 2011, and led to an impoved H1 2011 EBITDA compared with H1 2010. EBITDA in Q2 2011 was $4.8 million, up from $1.5 million in Q1 2011, and cash flow was a positive USD 4.3 million compared to a negative cash flow in Q1 2011 of USD 6.1 million, Nordic Tankers reported for the first half of 2011. In H1 2011 Nordic Tankers’ TCE revenue increased by $20.4 million compared to H1 2010 to $51.2 million ($30.8 million). EBITDA was $6.3 million in H1 2011 ($1.9 million) and the result before tax was a loss of $5.9 million ($-12.0 million).

Nordic Tankers, WOMAR establish “Nordic Womar” JV

Nordic Tankers A/S and WOMAR Logistics Pte. Ltd. have reached an agreement to establish a jointly owned independent pool management company with the name of “Nordic Womar”. Nordic Womar will initially manage two pools of coated chemical tankers with a total of approximately 40 vessels in the 10,000 to 25,000 deadweight tonnes (dwt) segment. The agreement is made in continuation of the joint marketing agreement that commenced 1 June 2010, where Nordic Tankers and WOMAR started marketing each others' coated chemical tankers in the range of 10,000 to 17,000 dwt in their individual areas of primary marketing strength. Stolt-Nielsen in JVs with Gulf Navigation

Stolt-Nielsen S.A. (SNSA) (Oslo Børs: SNI) said that its wholly owned subsidiary Stolt-Nielsen Indian Ocean and Middle East Service Ltd. ("Stolt") has entered into two 50/50 joint ventures with Gulf Navigation PJSC. The first joint venture, Gulf Stolt Tankers FZCO, will own six new 44,000 dwt coated chemical tankers. The ships will be traded in the Stolt Tankers Joint Service (STJS). Technical ship management will be provided by a second joint venture, Gulf Stolt Ship Management JLT, owned by Gulf Navigation and Stolt. Stolt-Nielsen will take delivery of four of the tankers - ordered in 2006 from SLS Shipbuilding in South Korea - during 2008 and 2009. Gulf Navigation will take delivery of two additional sister ships in 2009, having taken over options previously held by Stolt-Nielsen.
