Jet Edge System Cuts Precise 3D Parts of Almost Any Material

American manufacturer Jet Edge informs that its EDGE X-5 5-axis waterjet system with AquaVision Di Controller cuts precise taper-free parts from virtually any material. The EDGE X-5’s sturdy design separates the motion system from the catcher tank, eliminating vibration and ensuring maximum part quality. The system utilizes an industrial PC controller. It is ball-screw driven for optimal precision and features direct-couple AC brushless digital servo motors and single or double carriages.

Deepwater Waterjet Highlighted by Chukar

Chukar Waterjet, Inc. has released a new brochure highlighting its subsea waterjet equipment. The brochure outlines Chukar’s deepwater subsea waterjet skid capabilities and highlights the many applications and advantages of subsea waterjet technology. It also includes Chukar Waterjet’s topside waterjet equipment and its advantages. Chukar Waterjet’s Deepwater Subsea Waterjet Skid is operable to 3000 meters and powers a variety of ultra-high pressure waterjet cutting and blasting tools. It can cut steel as thick as 8” (203 mm) or quickly blast away hydrate ice crystals. Its many applications include decommissioning, salvage, inspection, cleaning, and hydrate remediation. Chukar Waterjet also recommends this equipment as an emergency response preparedness asset.

2011 WJTA-IMCA Conference & Expo

New Induction Coating Removal System Developed

Shipyard workers from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard have implemented an induction coating removal process that has reduced work execution costs and resulted in a safer work environment. Based on four available induction coating removal machines with trained personnel, this process has a potential cost avoidance of $655,000 per submarine availability and $2,620,000 per carrier availability. Once again Portsmouth Naval Shipyard has used Lean Manufacturing to improve productivity and reduce the Navy’s maintenance costs. Plastic Fabricator Tom Gardner has first-hand knowledge of the cost and time savings involved with the use of the induction coating removal process.

TRAILBLAZERS: Ultrastrip Helps Clear the Way

While convention holds that the most vital marine technological advances happen in or around the engine room and bridge, the business of coating and corrosion control - stripping, preparing and applying - arguably poses the most strenuous test the marine environment offers. It is a vessel's initial coating and maintenance thereafter that largely determines a vessel's lifecycle, thus its profitability. Coatings, much like mechanical systems, require constant attention to ensure that they are performing the duty required, namely maintaining the structural integrity of the steel beneath. That said, the last place a vessel owner want to see its vessel is in drydock, with a battalion of workers vigorously peeling, stripping and chipping away at a vessel's armor.

UltraStrip, Lisnave and Tecor Sign Agreement

UltraStrip Systems, Inc., the developer of a robotic ship-hull cleaning equipment, agreed to a five year agreement with Tecor-Tecnologia Anticorrosao, S. A. to be the exclusive ultra high pressure water jetting contractor at the ship repair yard of Lisnave, Estaleiros Navais, S.A. in Portugal. Lisnave, established in 1937, is one of the largest and busiest heavy marine ship repair yards in the world. UltraStrip Signs Agreement with BAE Systems

UltraStrip Systems, Inc. announced the signing of a five year exclusive agreement with BAE Systems ship yard subsidiaries in San Francisco and San Diego to provide its patented robotic automated waterjetting technology equipment and services. UltraStrip's robotic technology will perform high speed coating removal services to the shipyard's customers, including U.S. Navy vessels, oil tankers, cruise ships, bulk carriers, and container ships. BAE Systems San Francisco and BAE Systems San Diego are subsidiaries of BAE Systems Ship Repair, Inc., a group of companies owned by U.K. based BAE Systems.

New Waterjetting Solition Gun

Aqua-Dyne's new solition gun is the first waterjetting gun to provide oscillating nozzle movement instead of traditional fixed or rotating nozzle action. The oscillating wave action provides concentrated, overlapping coverage as opposed to the circular, non-even coverage associated with rotary nozzle systems. The difference is significantly quicker and more uniform cleaning or coating removal, which results in increased productivity, says the company. The solition gun has a maximum working pressure of 60,000 psi. Nozzle oscillation is powered by compressed air with a built-in dump valve. The gun can be configured for single or multiple jets on a hand-held or machine-mounted unit.
